Unity of Roanoke Valley

Unity of Roanoke Valley Our Mission: To inspire positive change in our spiritual lives and in the world. Mr. As Unity implies, we celebrate diversity.

Our Vision for the World: Centered in God, we embrace a world of love, peace and abundance for all. Unity was founded in the early 1890’s by Myrtle and Charles Fillmore, not to be a separate church or religious denomination, but as a spiritual movement within religions, dedicated to helping people of all faiths apply positive spiritual principles to better their lives. Fillmore wrote: “Unity is a

link in the great educational movement inaugurated by Jesus Christ; our objective is to discern the truth in Christianity and prove it. The truth that we teach is not new; neither do we claim special revelations or discovery of new religious principles. Our purpose is to help and teach mankind to use and prove the eternal Truth taught by the Master.”

Unity is called “practical Christianity” because it provides workable ideas and tools for daily living according to the principles of Jesus Christ. Our basic text is the Bible, interpreted historically and metaphysically, and we also explore other religious teachings as well as current writings that support us in living life with love, forgiveness, and non-judgment. Everyone is welcome – all religious, chronological, racial, ethnic, sexual and cultural orientations are expressions of God. Unity ministry offers prayer support, spiritual counseling, weddings, memorials, home and hospital visitation, volunteer opportunities, spiritual education for children and adults, a bookstore, lending library, outdoor labyrinth, playgrounds and picnic area, on 26 glorious acres.

Rev. Luz Lecour
Senior Minister @ URV
The Door That Is Always Open:
The Parable of The Workers in the Vineyard

Today, Sunday, June 14th, Rev. Luz will explore one of Jesus’ most thought-provoking teachings, inviting us to look beyond human expectations and into the radical generosity of Divine Love. In a world that measures value by effort and outcome, this story calls us to see with new eyes—and to remember that grace is not something we earn, but something freely given. Come ready to step into a wider, freer way of seeing, where every soul is welcomed into the fullness of God’s abundance.

We are not livestreaming this Sunday - join us in person! Click this link (https://www.youtube.com/) to watch previously recorded services. Remember to Like, Subscribe, and turn on Notifications for our YouTube channel.

We're hosting a community drum circle on the third Friday of each month at Unity of Roanoke Valley, and you're invited!

During the colder months, we’ll be inside in the Sanctuary. Once the weather warms up, we’ll be outside in the Inner Journey bookstore courtyard! We'll move inside if it rains.

Bring a chair, cushion, or blanket, a drum or percussion instrument, and a friend!

From Your Music Director

Music is such an intrinsic part of our services that I thought we would highlight some of the Unity Music Volunteers and guest musicians who give of their time, talent, and treasure throughout the year. While these volunteers and guest musicians vary widely in experience, training, and style, each is committed to service and brings a deep love of music to Unity of Roanoke Valley each week.

Please join with me, Rev. Luz Lecour, and the Board in acknowledging them. I am so grateful for the opportunity to make music with them all!

Keep a Song in Your Heart,
Janice

About Margie Sutherland

My career has been primarily in Procurement, in other words, a professional shopper negotiating with companies for services and technology across the globe.

My love of music comes from my father. He used to sit in the music sanctuary that was the basement of our split-level home in the '70s. He would listen to his favorite tunes from CSNY. The Clancy Brothers, Gordon Lightfoot, etc. I was a total Daddy's Girl, and we "played band" together. My parents bought me a kids' piano, and while listening to music with my father, I learned how to play music by ear at age 4.

I also played various percussion instruments, continued that through high school, but was always too shy to sing. My high school music teacher called me "The Little Drummer Girl."

Music is an essential part of my life. Spirit channels through music. I love to sing and am so grateful to Janice for allowing me to sing solo for the first time in front of a congregation this year!

The Summer Solstice is the great turning point of the year. It is the moment when the sun lingers longest in the sky and the natural world stands in its fullest expression of light. Spirit uses the rhythm of the seasons to speak to us, and the Solstice whispers a profound truth: You, too, are made of light.

Join Grace Wood and friends at the URV Labyrinth to celebrate the Summer Solstice at 9:00 am on Saturday, June 20th (rain or shine – bring an umbrella)!

From the Unity Prayer Service for June 2026:

Resting in Assurance

I settle into the calm certainty that life is held in divine care. This assurance does not depend on circumstance or outcome. It arises from the deep knowing that God is present as sustaining reality. Peace fills my awareness and steadies my inner world. I remain composed and confident, grounded in the Truth that divine order supports all that concerns me.
