🚨 LONG-POST ALERT — READ WITH CAUTION | 2026 UPDATE 🚨
As we enter 2026, the Halifax & Northampton County Reentry Council (HNLRC) continues its work amid ongoing funding challenges at the state level through the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction (NCDAC). Due to the lack of an approved state budget, funding streams connected to NCDAC remain delayed, which has limited our operational capacity while we remain pending full sustainable funding.
In response, HNLRC is actively seeking emergency support from both Halifax and Northampton Counties to ensure continuity of essential reentry and public-safety services during this interim period.
While funding requests have been denied in Halifax County, we are currently engaged in constructive discussions with Northampton County leadership to identify viable solutions that allow critical prevention and reentry initiatives to move forward.
Despite financial constraints tied to state-level funding delays, HNLRC continues supporting the community to the fullest extent possible with the resources currently available. Our mission remains active, adaptive, and community-focused.
As our region advances plans for a $50–$55 million jail facility, it is vital to maintain balance by investing in proactive, community-based services that address crime before it occurs and after release to stop recidivism (repeat offending). Infrastructure alone cannot resolve systemic challenges—prevention and reentry must be part of the solution.
📌 HNLRC 2026 PROGRAM FOCUS:
🧰 Resource Fairs — connecting individuals to essential services
💼 Job Fairs & Workforce Pathways — promoting employment stability
🏠 Essential Support Services — housing navigation, workforce readiness, and life skills
With rising crime statistics and increasing community needs, collaboration is no longer optional—it is essential. Sustainable public safety is achieved when counties, state partners, agencies, faith-based organizations, employers, and community leaders work together.
🤝 We will succeed as a unified front.
✨ Greatness is NO accident.
🔔 Awareness brings clarity. Resilience drives progress.
HNLRC remains committed to restoration, accountability, and safer communities and will continue advocating, serving, and leading with integrity throughout 2026.
