The Center for Energy Education (C4EE) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and a center for renewable energy research, education and workforce development. The Center provides a place to raise awareness of renewable energy and its importance locally, regionally and globally. C4EE is a hub for the renewable energy industry, a hands-on training ground for solar installations, a destination for students and families to learn about renewable energy resources, and a training facility to provide the knowledge and skills needed to pursue a career in the growing renewable energy industry.

Exploring the potential of geothermal energy for communities, industry, and the energy workforce.

The Center for Energy Education (C4EE) invites you to join us for a free educational webinar, The Basics of Geothermal Energy: Tapping Into Earth’s Natural Energy, on Tuesday, December 1, 2026.

Our guest speaker, Dr. Diana Gragg, is Managing Director of the Explore Energy Program at Stanford University’s Precourt Institute for Energy and a Core Lecturer in the university’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Dr. Gragg brings experience in energy education, research, and engineering to a discussion examining how geothermal energy works and its potential applications.

Webinar topics include:
• Geothermal energy fundamentals and applications
• Geothermal heat pumps and electricity generation
• Heating, cooling, and energy cost benefits
• Workforce and economic development opportunities
• Community considerations and renewable energy integration

The webinar will introduce geothermal technologies while examining their potential role in energy systems, economic development, and community planning.

Join the Center for Energy Education (C4EE) for Batteries 101: From Charge to Grid, a live webinar exploring the fundamentals of battery technology, energy storage, and the growing role batteries play in our energy systems.

Our guest speaker, Dr. Anthony Bombik, is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at UNC Charlotte and a researcher with the university's Battery Complexity, Autonomous Vehicle and Electrification Research Center (BATT CAVE), where his work focuses on battery performance, safety, and electric vehicle battery systems.

During this webinar, we'll explore different types of batteries, how energy storage works alongside solar power, battery safety, environmental and community impacts, and common myths about battery technology.

The Center for Energy Education (C4EE) will temporarily pause Energy Saver NC application assistance on Wednesday, October 21, as our team travels to neighboring communities to support application workshops and educational outreach events.

Application assistance will resume Thursday, October 22.

Some EnergyFEST moments deserve a post of their own.

Weldon Elementary School’s first graders came ready for the job in their hard hats and safety vests and brought plenty of energy to EnergyFEST 2026 with a performance all about solar power.

Their enthusiasm was a reminder that energy education can begin early. Creating opportunities for young students to explore science, technology, and renewable energy helps them connect what they are learning in the classroom with the world around them.

Thank you to the students and educators from Weldon Elementary School for helping make EnergyFEST such a memorable day. We loved having you with us! ☀️⚡

🥁⚡ Student Performances Kept EnergyFEST Fully Charged

EnergyFEST 2026 wasn’t powered only by conversations about energy and technology — our student performers brought plenty of energy of their own.

Throughout the day, students helped transform the C4EE campus with music, movement, and school spirit.

Thank you to the Roanoke Rapids High School Marching Band and JROTC, Washington County High School JROTC, and Northwest Collegiate and Technical Academy Marching Band for sharing their talents with our attendees and helping make EnergyFEST feel like a true community celebration.

From the opening of the program through the afternoon, their performances added another dimension to a day built around learning, participation and imagining what comes next.

And we can’t talk about student performances without another shoutout to Weldon Elementary School’s first graders, whose solar-energy song brought some of the biggest smiles of the day. ☀️

Thank you to all of the students, educators, directors and school staff who helped make EnergyFEST 2026 fully charged from beginning to end! ⚡🎶

💡 EnergyFEST 2026 brought together voices from government, healthcare, agriculture, education, environmental justice, and the energy industry to explore what North Carolina’s changing energy landscape means for rural communities.

David Webb, Director of Intergovernmental Affairs and Outreach for Gov. Stein’s office, spoke about energy affordability, environmental justice, and keeping rural North Carolina part of the conversation as new development moves forward.

North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein then continued the conversation through recorded remarks on growing electricity needs, energy efficiency, renewable energy and the clean-energy workforce.

N.C. Utilities Commissioner Floyd McKissick Jr. continued that discussion in his keynote address, examining population growth, economic development, rising electricity demand and the role communities can play in shaping the benefits that come with new energy infrastructure.

The conversation also explored what community leadership looks like locally. Mondale Robinson, Mayor of the Town of Enfield, spoke about the power rural communities have to shape economic and energy development, while Dr. Valerie Ann Johnson of the North Carolina Environmental Justice Network connected clean energy with environmental justice, public health, education and community participation.

Todd Hickey, President of ECU Health North Hospital, brought another dimension to the conversation by discussing rural healthcare, workforce challenges and the importance of strong community partnerships.

EnergyFEST also celebrated student innovation as Roanoke Rapids High School’s 2026 National KidWind championship team presented SunHaven, their award-winning vision for a solar-powered rural community designed around affordability, resilience and quality of life.

In the afternoon, agriculture took center stage during From Farm to Power: Innovation in Sustainable Agriculture & Energy. Moderated by C4EE Southeast Outreach Director Ted Spencer, the panel featured Tyrone Williams of Fourtee Acres, Patrick Brown of Brown Family Farms and David Neville of Capstone Produce Market, who discussed how renewable energy, technology and rising operating costs are reshaping modern agriculture.

We also thank Halifax County Commissioner Vernon Bryant and James Pierce, Vice Chair of the C4EE Board, for being part of the day’s program and helping welcome our guests to EnergyFEST.

From the stage to conversations across the C4EE campus, EnergyFEST created space for people with different experiences and areas of expertise to learn from one another and consider what a fully charged future can mean for rural communities.

Thank you to everyone who joined the Center for Energy Education for EnergyFEST 2026 in Roanoke Rapids!

This year’s event brought together students, educators, community members, elected officials, energy professionals and organizations from across North Carolina for a full day of learning, conversation and hands-on experiences centered on our changing energy future.

Across the C4EE campus, attendees toured our newly renovated Innovation Center, explored the adjacent solar facility, visited exhibitor stations and experienced an electric vehicle showcase featuring approximately 25 EVs.

From hands-on learning and student innovation to conversations with public leaders, farmers, educators and energy professionals, EnergyFEST created opportunities for people of all ages to experience the many ways energy connects to our communities.

EnergyFEST is possible because so many organizations, schools, community leaders, industry professionals and supporters are willing to come together around education and opportunity in rural communities.
