What does it mean to you to be a Unitarian Universalist?

It’s not always an easy question to answer!

Today, the Unitarian Universalist Association is introducing “Together Toward Love,” a new identity framework to help UUs speak more clearly about who we are, what connects us, and what our faith calls us to do.

❤️ “Together” reflects the covenant and community we freely choose.

➡️ “Toward” reminds us that our faith is something we put into practice as we work toward a more just world.

💗 “Love” is at the center of our Shared Values and guides us in all we do.

“Together Toward Love” isn't about telling every UU or congregation how to define their faith. It's about giving us shared language to tell our own stories and celebrate the many ways we live our values.

We'll be sharing more about this framework in the coming weeks and into 2027.

Beloveds, the faithful work of protecting our planet, our democracy, and our loved ones can be exhausting. We must make space for rest, for joy, and for meaningful practices of renewal in these hectic days. And it is also true that when we take action with our communities, we have the many inspiring stories of vigilant resistance, the protest songs, and the profound examples of courageous witness to fortify our spirits.

May this solidarity inspire us as we remember that it requires years to topple empires, and that we are the ones who keep each other on the path of a faithful NO. No, not my neighbors. No, not the corruption of my values. No, not the children. No, not the erasure of democracy. JUST NO. Not in my name.

Our acts of faithful dissent are a foundational way that we show up for communal care and, when carried out in community together, these acts can be healing and inspiring, strengthening and renewing.

I encourage Unitarian Universalists from across our Association to join this public lecture, led by Dr. Elías Ortega, President of Meadville Lombard Theological School and Professor of Religion, Ethics, and Leadership, on Monday at 7:30pm ET/6:30pm CT/4:30pm PT.

The lecture will explore the question of what our collective responsibility is to tend to our democratic project. Dr. Ortega will draw on theological perspectives on civic life and feminist ethics of care to argue that democracy is a form of care for one another and for our society, now and in the future.

Be kind. It's not that hard.

I have come to terms with the future.
From this day onward I will walk
easy on the earth. Plant trees. Kill
no living things. Live in harmony with
all creatures. I will restore the earth
where I am. Use no more of its resources
than I need. And listen, listen to what
it is telling me.

October 17 was a powerful start, but there’s more work to do.

We must ensure that every valid vote is counted, certified, and protected.

From today through Election Day, No Kings has a dual mission: continuing to drive every eligible voter to cast their ballot, while preparing our nationwide network to rapidly respond to any attempts at election interference.

If officials attempt to obstruct the count or refuse to certify valid results, our movement must be ready to stand together in disciplined, nonviolent community action to defend our elections.

This includes you.

Because in America, the people choose their leaders, and we will not allow any official to subvert the will of the voters.

No Thrones. No Crowns. No surrender. No Kings.
