๐Ÿฃ๐Ÿ’™ **Riverview Comes Together to Deliver Easter Meals with Heart** ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿฃ

This Easter season, Riverview once again showed what makes our community so special, we take care of one another.

Through an incredible collaboration between the **Riverview Kiwanis Club**, **Riverview Rotary Club**, and the amazing **Key Club students from Riverview Community High School**, ten local families were provided with complete Easter dinners to help make their holiday a little brighter.

This effort, led by Kiwanis President Diane Kinlen, brought together so many helping hands. From shopping and organizing, with support from Meijer employees, to picking up and transporting the food, it was truly a team effort. Special thanks to those who helped move everything to Seitz Middle School in preparation for distribution.

On Saturday, March 28th, volunteers from all three groups came together to unpack, organize, and repack nearly $700 worth of food. Each family received a full Easter meal, ham and all the traditional fixings, everything needed to share a special day together.

What makes this even more meaningful is the collaboration across generations. Our Key Club students brought energy and compassion, while Kiwanis and Rotary members provided leadership and experience. Thatโ€™s what community partnership looks like at its best.

A special thank you to Matt Dominski, who coordinated with Riverview Community Schools to connect these meals with families in need. The gratitude from the recipient families says it all.

As Kiwanis President Diane Kinlen shared:
*"Even in the strongest communities, there are neighbors who need a helping hand from time to time, and Riverview always steps up."*

Since 1967, the Kiwanis Club of Riverview has helped serve more than **1,200 families** through its Easter and Thanksgiving meal programs, a legacy of compassion we can all be proud of.

๐Ÿ‘‰ If this story inspires you, consider getting involved with Kiwanis, Rotary, or supporting our Key Club students.

Because in Riverview, we donโ€™t just live here, we look out for each other. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ“šโœจ Help Unlock a World of Knowledge for Riverviewโ€™s Third Graders! โœจ๐Ÿ“š

Did you know there are more than 4.1 million third graders in the United States this year? At this crucial stage, children are discovering the joy of reading and the power of words. A dictionary can be more than just a bookโ€”itโ€™s a set of keys that unlocks a lifetime of learning.

Since 2007, the Kiwanis of Riverview, with the help of local businesses and supporters, have proudly placed 4,616 dictionaries into the hands of Riverviewโ€™s third graders. This year, weโ€™re continuing the traditionโ€”and we need your help!

๐Ÿ‘‰ How You Can Support:

A $75 donation gets your name or business printed on the front of each distributed dictionary.

A $100 donation also includes a 5โ€ x 5โ€ decal to proudly display at your business showing your support for education.

Any contributionโ€”big or smallโ€”brings us closer to our $1,400 goal.

๐Ÿ“… Deadline to be included as a sponsor: September 24, 2025
๐Ÿ“– Dictionaries will be distributed in early October to every third grader in Riverview Schools.

Riverview Community Unites in Successful Cereal Drive to Fight Hunger.

472 Boxes and $320 Collected Through Joint Effort of Civic Groups, Students, and Residents

RIVERVIEW โ€“ In a powerful show of unity and compassion, the City of Riverview came together to make a real difference for families facing food insecurity.

The recently concluded Cereal Drive, held in partnership with Pam Taurence of the Childrenโ€™s Hospital of Michigan, brought together by Riverview Mayor Andrew Swift, three of the cityโ€™s civic organizations the Riverview Kiwanis, Riverview Rotary, and Riverview Knights of Columbusโ€”for their first-ever joint charitable project.

The drive officially kicked off with a drive-thru collection event on Saturday, April 26th and continued through the end of May with donation bins placed at locations throughout the city, including the Riverview Police and Fire Departments, the Riverview Veterans Memorial Library, Riverview City Hall, and A Serendipity Cakery & Ice Cream.

Thanks to the enthusiastic response from Riverview residents and the tireless efforts of volunteers, the campaign collected a total of 472 boxes of cereal and $320 in cash donations.

โ€œThis was a true community effort,โ€ said Mayor Andrew Swift. โ€œOur civic groups, students, and neighbors came together to support families in need. Itโ€™s yet another example of Riverviewโ€™s incredible heart and spirit.โ€

Much of the driveโ€™s success can be credited to the coordination between the three civic organizations and the extraordinary commitment of the Riverview Community High School Connection Club, led by student volunteer Olga Tsipras.

The collected cereal was delivered to both St. Cyprianโ€™s Food Pantry and to Krogerโ€™s in Southgate for the benefit of Gleaners Community Food Bank, helping ensure local children have access to breakfast during the summer months when school meal programs are unavailable.

Special recognition was given to volunteers who went above and beyond, including:
โ€ข Brenda Tuttle (Kiwanis)
โ€ข John Allen (Rotary & Riverview Chief of Police)
โ€ข Bruce Kresslein (Rotary & Knights of Columbus)
โ€ข Michelle, John, and Elizabeth Fleming (Rotary)
โ€ข Mark Lauer, Bill Loeber, Don Smith (Knights of Columbus)
โ€ข Olga Tsipras (Riverview High School Connection Club)
โ€ข Mayor Andrew Swift (Kiwanis, Rotary, Knight of Columbus)

On Saturday morning, May 30th, the final donationโ€”312 boxes of cerealโ€”was delivered to the Kroger Drop-Off Site in Southgate. The remaining 160 boxes had already been distributed earlier to St. Cyprian. Volunteers arrived early to help unload the cereal donations, a fitting finale to a drive that demonstrated teamwork at its finest.

The cereal drive also saw media support, with local personalities like Jay Towers of WNIC participating in the Southgate collection effort, further amplifying the message of giving.

Although the drive is now complete, its impact will be felt by families across the region. As Pam Taurence of Childrenโ€™s Hospital of Michigan put it, โ€œNo child should go hungry when school meals arenโ€™t available. This drive helps fill that gapโ€”and Riverview stepped up in a big way.โ€

Mayor Swift and the City of Riverview extends its heartfelt thanks to everyone who donated, volunteered, or spread the word. This project was more than just a food driveโ€”it was a shining example of what can be achieved when a community comes together with purpose and compassion.

Riverview Rotary and Kiwanis Launch Fundraiser to Restore Fire Safety Education Trailer.

Riverview Rotary Club, in partnership with the Kiwanis of Riverview, The Riverview Rotary and the Riverview Fire Department, is proud to announce a community fundraising campaign to restore and improve a newly donated Fire Safety Education Trailer.

The groups are seeking to raise $3,000 to prepare the unit for public use and a new smoke machine for training.

The trailer, generously donated by West Bloomfield Fire Chief Greg Flynn, is a fully functional two-story mobile education unit. It features simulated home environments, including a bedroom and kitchen, designed to teach children how to safely respond in the event of a fire.

โ€œThis trailer will be a great addition to our Public Education division,โ€ said Riverview Fire Chief Glenn Owens. โ€œIt provides an engaging, hands-on learning experience for kids. Our department members are excited and have already committed to assisting with cleaning and minor repairs.โ€

Although the unit is in good condition, it requires some painting, cleaning, and minor updates before it can be used for events such as Summerfest, Fire Department Open Houses, and school outreach programs. Brand-new versions of these trailers cost between $40,000 and $100,000, making this donation an invaluable asset to the City of Riverview.

To support this effort, the Riverview Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs have launched a campaign to raise $3,000 to fund materials and necessary repairs.

As a show of appreciation, donors who contribute $500 or more will be recognized with a personal or business tribute displayed on the fire safety trailer itselfโ€”a lasting testament to community support for youth safety and education. Everyone who donates $50 or more will be eligible for a drawing for a $50 A Serendipity Gift Certificate or a $50 gift card from the Parthenon.

โ€œThis is more than just a trailerโ€”itโ€™s a tool that could help save lives by teaching kids how to respond in an emergency,โ€ said Mayor Andrew Swift, a member of the Riverview Rotary. โ€œWeโ€™re calling on our residents, businesses, and civic leaders to join us in making this project a reality.โ€
