✨ This year, we lit up the Trujillo Adobe with holiday lights and welcomed the new year with a traditional chalk blessing at the door in honor of Día de los Tres Reyes.

The chalk marking symbolizes gratitude, protection, and hope for the year ahead, a beautiful reminder of the traditions that connect us to history and community.

As we look forward to the new year, we’re excited for what’s ahead at the Trujillo Adobe and for our continued collaboration with Riverside County Parks and Outdoor Spaces. Mark your calendars, the Riverside Tamale Festival returns April 18, with many more events to come.

Here’s to light, legacy, and community. 💫

Helen Workman-Mora was not only a decades long relentless supporter of the Trujillo Adobe, she was the guiding force, and now guardian angel, behind our efforts to Save Trujillo Adobe. Que Dios te bendiga.

Meet Lupita and Poncho: The Heart of Trujillo Adobe

Today, we’re excited to welcome two very special residents to the Trujillo Adobe: Lupita and Poncho, our beloved burros! Their story is a testament to the rich history of Spanish Town and the enduring spirit of community.

Lupita and Poncho are not just charming companions; they are the descendants of courageous donkeys that journeyed from New Mexico along the old Spanish Trail. These resilient animals were instrumental in helping the original families of Placita de los Trujillos establish a new life in California, carrying essential supplies as they built their adobe homes.

As Spanish Town flourished, so did Lupita and Poncho’s roles in the community. Together, they worked tirelessly alongside the townsfolk, assisting in planting walnut and olive trees, tomatoes, grapes, chilies, and frijoles. With every harvest, they brought joy and nourishment to the residents, becoming cherished symbols of hard work and dedication.

The love and care they received from the community ensured that Lupita and Poncho thrived. Children would bring them fresh water and treats, while adults built cozy shelters for them to rest after their long days in the fields.

Today, these two burros continue to embody the spirit of resilience that shaped Spanish Town. When you visit the Trujillo Adobe, take a moment to greet Lupita and Poncho. Their presence serves as a reminder of the strong bonds of community and the legacy of hard work that enriches our lives.

Join us in celebrating their story and the history of our town!
