Why Riverside Safer Together
More than 250 people have died in Riverside County Sheriff’s custody since 2012 — and the number continues to grow. Families, loved ones, and entire communities are still living with the consequences.
In response, families, community members, and local organizations came together to pursue a concrete, democratic solution.
Riverside Safer Together is advancing a countywide ballot measure to establish independent oversight of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, so complaints and incidents are reviewed outside the department itself.
This effort is grounded in the belief that real safety depends on transparency, accountability, and public trust — and that community voices matter in shaping systems meant to protect everyone.
