Inland Urban Forest Council

Inland Urban Forest Council The IUFC is one of seven regional councils in California. Please join us for our quarterly meetings.

The Inland Urban Forest Council (IUFC) works to advance the greening of cities and the sustainable management of community forests of western Riverside and San Bernardino counties. The IUFC:
•Shares information that will help with the planning and management of community forests.
•Obtains and shares region-wide funding for urban forestry programs.
•Conducts educational field trips, tours, and work

shops.
•Advocates for tree planting and care by supporting outreach events, such as Arbor Day and Earth Day. The Council advances regional concerns to the California Urban Forests Council (CaUFC), CAL FIRE (formerly California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection), and the California Community Forestry Advisory Committee (CCFAC).

Ginkgo biloba evolved 270 million years ago, surviving every mass extinction event since the dinosaurs. Their cellular repair mechanisms can regenerate tissue after extreme thermal damage that would kill most plants. Modern studies show their leaves contain unique compounds that protect DNA from radiation-induced breaks. Scientists now study these Hiroshima survivors to understand how plants might grow after nuclear disasters. [b9hDj]

Saturday is the International Day of Forests.

Forests are more than just trees – they provide a rich variety of food sources, including fruits, nuts, seeds, mushrooms and honey.

They also provide many health benefits for humans, such as fresh air, nutritious foods, clean water, space for recreation and more.
