Founded in April 2012, Highlander Gaming is a non-profit social organization at the University of California, Riverside. We aim to promote and involve the campus and surrounding areas in e-sports, competitive gaming, and the world of video games. Through Highlander Gaming, we work to create a strong community that dedicates itself to maintaining a competitive spirit, while maintaining a strong sen
se of sportsmanship and social inclusion. Highlander Gaming began as a small club on campus in 2012 and has seen rapid expansion in both its members and the staff that run it. Our club is in the process of filling a niche in the Riverside area that has been empty for far too long, and has therefore seen a large interest in our future events. We currently plan to hold three massive events per year, which we anticipate will draw on average one hundred people per event, and are quickly increasing that number. In the future, we aim to increase the number of these events, and are not only looking to benefit our community on campus, but also provide charity events through gaming. Highlander Gaming’s staff consists of a dedicated group of students who are determined to put in the time and effort to make sure that the club’s intentions happen. Our staff commits itself to promoting the widespread acceptance of gaming as a hobby, sport, and as an art. In the end, our organization aspires to become a major presence on campus that inspires other universities to follow our example of creating a comfortable and welcoming community for video game events across the country.
