Riverside Woman's Club

Riverside Woman's Club HISTORY:

Riverside Woman’s Club was founded January 7, 1896, with eleven members. Club members decided to form a “Shakespeare” class in 1902.

Riverside Woman’s Club is the oldest community service organization in the city (Founded in 1896) and is comprised of professional woman, retirees and full-time moms. Initially there were four subdivisions of the club: An Art class, a Home class, a Review class, and a Music class. As club membership grew, so did the number of classes offered. The club joined the General Federation of Women’s Club

s in November 1897 and signed the charter for the creation of the California Federation of Women’s Club’s in January 1900. The first club meetings were held in the homes of members. When this became laborious and inconvenient, they made the decision to build their own clubhouse. Riverside Woman’s Club is the oldest community service organization in the city and is comprised of professional woman, retirees and homemakers. The Club was instrumental in establishing the Riverside Carnegie Library, Riverside Community Hospital, Riverside Community Players and the Local Chapters of The Red Cross, The Epilepsy Society and the YMCA. While the Riverside Woman’s Club has strong roots, our focus is on the future, illustrated by our scholarship grants to graduating high school seniors, RCC nursing students and dental hygienists.
