Starting Over Strong Our focus is on people who have been directly impacted by the carceral system.

Starting Over Strong (SOS), a justice-focused nonprofit advocating for systematically disadvantaged communities across Riverside County, envisions a society where every person receives the support and resources necessary to rebuild their lives and thrive. Starting Over Strong (SOS) is dedicated to advocating for and building support for access to essential services such as housing, job placement,

retraining programs, and addressing food insecurity for vulnerable populations. We amplify their voices through policy advocacy, public awareness campaigns, and by supporting candidates and organizations that align with our mission. Our vision is a society where every person receives the support and resources necessary to rebuild their lives and thrive. Key activities include championing policies that provide comprehensive services, conducting public awareness campaigns, educating voters on critical issues, organizing grassroots mobilization efforts, endorsing and supporting aligned candidates, and lobbying for policies that promote long-term stability and self-sufficiency.

Too often, Riverside City Council has been shaped by those who govern from a "we know what's best for you" posture rather than listening, learning, and working toward the empowerment of every resident, business, and community-based organization in the city.

Aram Ayra and Luis Hernandez represent something different — leaders who understand that co-governance isn't a talking point, it's the whole point.

SOS is proud to endorse (Ward 2) and (Ward 6) in the Riverside City Council contests on the June 2, 2026 ballot.

Riverside is ready for a new generation of leadership — one that sees community members, including those rebuilding their lives after incarceration, as equal participants in governance.

stands alone — the only one on that Board who governs like he actually works for his constituents, not the Sheriff's Association. The rest have taken their marching orders — as demonstrated by the July 29th oversight motion dying and the coroner-sheriff separation decision. Fifteen people have died in Riverside County custody since July 29th. Not one of those four supervisors stepped up.
