American Legion Riverside Post 10

American Legion Riverside Post 10 We have been serving veterans, families and the community since 1919. We are 2.4 million members strong and continue to advocate for veterans rights.

The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization. Focusing on service to veterans, servicemembers and communities, the Legion evolved from a group of war-weary veterans of World War I into one of the most influential nonprofit groups in the United States. Membership swiftly grew to over 1 million, and local posts sprang up across the country. Today, member

ship stands at over 2.4 million in 14,000 posts worldwide. The posts are organized into 55 departments: one each for the 50 states, along with the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, France, Mexico and the Philippines. Over the years, the Legion has influenced considerable social change in America, won hundreds of benefits for veterans and produced many important programs for children and youth.

We would like to thank all who contributed to American Legion activities for Memorial Day. Last Saturday we had a great turnout for flag replacement at Gates of Heaven and Little Neck Cemeteries. Thank you to all who helped especially the East Providence/Seekonk Rotary Club, Boy Scouts Troop 5, Girl Scouts Troop 417. I would like to thank Bob DaSilva, East Providence Mayor and all the participation and assistance from all city agencies including but not limited to the EPPD, EPFD, East Providence marching bands! Thank you to Chrissy Rossi for organizing and coordinating the parade. Thank you to all who matched and came out to watch despite the less than ideal weather. We all powered through it to help honor those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for freedom!

We just received word that the Girl Scouts of Southern New England Troop 989 replaced the flags at Little Neck Cemetery. We can't thank them enough for their hard work and dedication! Having said that, we no longer need folks at Little Neck so everyone can report to Gates of Heaven at 8AM on Saturday!

05/14/2026

Just a reminder, we will be placing flags at Gates of Heaven Cemetery and Little Neck Cemetery at 8AM this Saturday. We will need about 2-3 people at Little Neck and everyone else can help at Gates of Heaven. Thank you as always for volunteering

Just a quick note, while we are undergoing renovations, we will not be accepting old flags. You may drop that off at American Legion Post 311 in Seekonk. There are also several areas in East Providence that will accept old flags.

This Veterans Day there are a host of restaurants and coffee shops offering free meals & coffee for veterans. One of those establishments is Mcshortagees in the location of the former Schroders Deli on Willett Ave right near Willet Pond. They are offering to deliver free meals to any veteran.

We would like to thank all those who assisted with the replacement of flags at Gates of Heaven & Little Neck Cemetery in Riverside last Saturday. Unfortunately we had the fewest volunteers that we have ever had, which took us much longer than usual. Unless we get a good group to volunteer next year, we are unsure we will be able to continue reflagging these cemeteries.
On a more positive note, the parade today was bigger & better than ever thanks 1st & foremost to Chrissy Rossi for organizing this great tradition. It is a monumental task to do so, so we are greatly appreciative. Thank you to Mayor Bob DaSilva for his leadership & coordinating with the various city departments including but not limited to East Providence Police , EPFD, Parks Department and all the other various departments in the city who helped to ensure the route was clean and safe for all participants & parade watchers. We could not have done this without your assistance. Thank you to the crew at the Legion for cooking the hot dogs for parade participants and all that involves. Thank you to all those that donated their time and money to help make this a success. Thank you to all the parade participants who took the time out to help us honor those who paid the ultimate sacrifice! All gave some and Some gave All!
