CLP: Confronteras 2012

CLP: Confronteras 2012 CLP: Confronteras 2012 Youth leaders are taking charge in a locally based organization, Child Leader Project (CLP).

CLP is a non-profit organization that encourages youth to reflect, understand and speak out about the social issues they see in their communities. It is an organization that creates space for community members to come together to talk about what issues in the community are real to them.

Confronteras: Confronting the Border, is our most recent project in the Arlanza community. Seven Norte Vista High School youth, two staff, and three CLP young adult mentors are planning a trip to the USA-Mexico border to learn more about immigration rights and the current political issues with Riverside’s nearest international neighbor.

General information

The Confronteras program consists of several training sessions, film and documentary viewings and community events in which youth leaders reach out to local resources to prepare for their five-day journey to the border in February. We believe that this type of experiential education as empowering, as it gives youth access and ownership to information and action. By forming and identifying the questions that we have surrounding immigration, and recognizing how those questions relate to our own experience in Arlanza, we are able to understand our own local experience within the global community. These youth leaders, who are from a low-income and largely Latino school in Riverside are changing the way that our community thinks about young people and activism.
