This past week, Battalion Chief Wallace taught a Fire Dynamics lab for each of the departments three shifts. This consisted of classroom instruction as well as a demonstration with the use of a house prop.

During this two our training, crews were able to:
-Refresh on the science of Fire Behavior.
-Experiment with different suppression techniques (in the classroom environment).
-Watch a demonstration of all classroom instruction put into action with the use of a house prop (built by Local 2938 members).

After months of cold weather, Local 2938 members took advantage of the nice day and trained on Basic Fireground Operations.

Crews practiced ground ladder deployment.
Hose line deployment and advancement.
Apparatus placement.

We’re always grateful for an opportunity to hone our craft to better serve the community.

Carbon monoxide is called the “silent killer” for a reason.

It’s invisible. It’s odorless. And it can build up quickly when furnaces, fireplaces, water heaters, or space heaters aren’t venting properly.

Early symptoms look like the flu — headache, dizziness, nausea, confusion — but CO exposure can turn deadly fast.

If your CO alarm sounds — get everyone outside to fresh air immediately and call 911.

Working CO alarms save lives. Don’t wait until it’s too late.

Help your firefighters help you—please keep fire hydrants clear this winter. Clear at least 3 feet in all directions, make a path from the street, and knock away any ice.

A few minutes of shoveling can make a life-saving difference. 💪🔥

Members of Local 2938 recently completed their annual Air Consumption course. Wearing full PPE and SCBA, firefighters performed a series of physically demanding tasks designed to evaluate air management, endurance, and overall stamina.

This department-led training marks the first of many scheduled for 2026.

2025 Training Recap

In 2025, members of the Local 2938 logged over 8,000 hours of training. That time came from a combination of department-led instruction and members pursuing additional training opportunities on their own.

That commitment reflects who we are: professionals who work every day to sharpen our skills so we can better serve our community.

Thank you to our residents for another year of trust and support. It’s an honor to serve you while doing the job we love.
