This was one of our "Curb Appeal" projects last month when the box Springs Coop Parish joined us to help out a few neighbors. Barbara's porch, front garden and door were in bad shape. We added numbers, painted the porch, dug a garden and Pat Silvestri worked his magic on the door. Thanks to everyone who came out to help.

"I'm just in awe. How could people be so thoughtful! God made angels. It really touched our hearts." -- Sandi Logan.

One our our curb appeal projects earlier this month was scraping, sanding and painting four large windows at the home of Joe and Sandi Logan, aka Mr. and Mrs. Santa of the Wood Streets. Thanks to a helping hand from the volunteers from the Box Springs Coop Parish, we were able to fix the unwieldy windows and trim some overgrown vines at the Logan house.

We had a great day today helping our neighbors in need. And we are so thankful for all the men and women of the Box Springs Coop Parish who came to our neighborhood to help us! They rock! We will post some photos soon so you all can see what we did.

Looking for Volunteers for Tomorrow: We are starting our curb appeal and handyman fix-it day tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. at 3729 Bandini, between Magnolia & Riverside. We will be at other locations, too, where we will be helping our neighbors in need by scraping and painting windows, clearing rain gutters, etc. If you can volunteer any amount of time tomorrow, contact Michele at [email protected]. Thanks!

DEC. 8 EVENT: Does your house need curb appeal? The Wood Streets Neighbor Network is hosting its own mini-version of the well-known HGTV show, "Curb Appeal: The Block." We are looking for homeowners who are physically unable or financially unable to spruce up their front yards without our help. We have 20 to 30 volunteers descending on our neighborhood the morning of December 8 to help with landscaping, painting and handyman projects. We ask only that you buy any plants, paint or other material that is needed for the project. We will do the rest. If you would like our help or you know someone who could use our assistance, please send an email to Michele at [email protected] no later than Wed, Nov 14.

Hey Everyone: Mark your calendars for Dec. 8 for what promises to be a wonderful volunteer effort in our neighborhood. We have another volunteer group that wants to help us help our neighborhood! We are not yet sure what it will entail, but they are bringing college students, handymen, painters and gardeners. We want to hear your ideas for a large project or several small projects that our neighbors are in need of. We'll figure out what is doable. Let us know any ideas you might have, and if you might want to volunteer in the effort. Thanks!

Meet Molly and Mandy, the two Wood Streets dogs who helped inspire Michele to start this volunteer network. Molly, sitting on the ground, is a nine-year-old schnoodle, meaning she is half poodle, half schnauzer; Mandy is a five-year-old shiatsu. Michele spent several hours walking these Castle Reagh dogs around our great neighborhood. Aren't they adorable?

Did anyone see the update on the Asian citrus psyllid in the paper this week? If not, here's a link to it. Sounds like they are targeting large groves and not back-yard trees anymore. Article provides some advice for citrus tree owners.

One of our neighbors is looking for someone to watch their dog from 9 a.m. this Friday until 8 p.m. Saturday. The owner will drop off and pick up the dog. Note: The dog is people-friendly but not friendly with other dogs or cats. If it's over 90 degrees the dog would need to stay inside and also he stays inside at night to sleep. Any takers? Email Michele at [email protected].

Thanks to everyone who has helped with this effort so far this summer. We are still getting requests to drive our neighbors to the grocery store and small tasks like that. To get on the volunteer list, send an email to [email protected].
