The UCCE Riverside County Master Gardeners are a group of volunteers who have completed a 10-month-long training program. They share

their knowledge through community service, educational outreach, propagation, lectures and demonstrations. The volunteers also answer questions from the public about home gardening via a telephone hotline and email. 🌻☀️ Growing Gardeners at SummerFest! ☀️🌻

The UC Master Gardeners of Riverside County had a wonderful time at the Riverside Unified School District's SummerFest on Wednesday, June 3!

This annual event highlights the district's summer lunch program available to children at local parks throughout the summer.

Our volunteers — Jamie Abali, Kim Coons-Leonard, Karla Kadow, Nancy Procochuk, and Audrey Rowland — stayed busy helping children plant sunflower seeds in peat pots to take home and grow.

Along the way, families learned about the importance of pollinators and had the opportunity to ask a wide variety of gardening questions.

With 379 children and parents stopping by our booth, it was a fun-filled day of hands-on learning, gardening, and community engagement. We hope to see lots of beautiful sunflowers blooming across Riverside this summer! 🌻🐝🦋

Thank you to Riverside Unified School District for inviting us to be part of this wonderful community event.
