On Friday, May 15, we partnered with the Transgender Health & Wellness Center and teamed up with 21 volunteer attorneys from Davis Wright Tremaine LLP for a Record Sealing Clinic to help TGI folx protect their private information.

Taking time out of their retreat in Palm Desert, our volunteers chose advocacy over other activities to grant our clients free, culturally competent legal services - wow!

We recognize how incredibly fortunate we are to have such altruistic community partners and would like to send an immense thank you to our wonderful volunteers and staff involved, to the Trans Health & Wellness Center, and to Molina's One Stop Help Center in Indio for providing the space.

Our ICLS Mentorship Program at ICLS brings together staff attorneys, law clerks, and paralegals to learn from one another and develop professionally – in an environment catered to their growth and connection.

Last week, our cohort of advocates came together for a mid-program luncheon, where they reflected and connected over career goals, development, and pathways to success. Mentorship is an important part of personal and career development, and we're proud to create space for that within our organization.

Our next Summer Law Clerk Spotlight is filled by Salma Elgohary — a Southern California native and first-year law student at the University of San Francisco School of Law.

With interests in international and civil rights law and a passion for creating meaningful change in her community, Salma says that ICLS's impact on residents is what led her to apply for the opportunity.

"What inspires me most about ICLS," said Salma, "is its commitment to bridging the gap for individuals who might otherwise lack a meaningful voice within the legal system. Access to justice should not be determined by one's financial resources, and through its work, ICLS helps make that principle a reality for thousands of residents throughout Riverside and San Bernardino Counties."

We appreciate the sentiment, Salma, and welcome you with open arms!

The House on Lemon Street 🏠🍋 As questions about birthright citizenship and the constitutional guarantee of liberty for all come under question, the Harada's have set the precedent that the rights of all American citizens are the same no matter what their heritage. We are proud to share their story as part two in "The Meaning of Citizenship" — a video series leading up to the Supreme Court's decision that's expected later this month.

Thank you to our partners at the Parkview Legacy Foundation for supporting the important work we do, for highlighting our organization as a grantee, and for helping us build healthier communities.

"Parkview Legacy Foundation values the work that Inland Counties Legal Services does within our region to address the focus areas of housing stability and whole health accessibility. The free legal assistance they provide for our vulnerable residents directly affects homelessness, hunger, and other critical civil legal issues in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties."

It's that time of year again where we get the privilege to introduce you to our Summer Law Clerks!

This year, we are excited to introduce you to Alexis Saldana — a law student from Pepperdine Caruso Law School, a public interest law professional, and one of our exceptional law clerks.

Raised in Corona, CA, Alexis comes to ICLS with the goal to give back to the community she grew up in and serve Riverside County.

"I really love how ICLS connects directly with the community and does so much community outreach so resources can be provided to such a wide range of people and legal issues," said Alexis.

When she's not engaged in her legal work, you can find Alexis in any given place traveling, reading (non-law school related books), and scrapbooking.

Welcome to the team!
