💰 Why Can’t the District Just ‘Cut Back’ or ‘Live Within Its Means’? 💰
Mad River Local Schools works tirelessly to manage expenses and control costs. In fact, our Treasurer’s Office has been recognized with the Auditor of State Awards for the exceptional quality of their financial work.

However, there are some hard financial realities that cannot be ignored:

📉 State Funding Has Decreased – A decade ago, 60% of our funding came from the state. Today, a much higher percentage comes from local taxes, as the state continues to shift the burden onto local communities.

💰 Revenues Have Remained Stagnant – Since our last levy approval, the district’s revenue has not increased, yet expenses continue to rise each year, just as they do for families and businesses.

🔧 We’re Forced to Stretch Every Dollar – Without a Permanent Improvement Levy, the district has had to pull funds away from student education to cover repairs and maintenance. This is not sustainable.

The reality is: cutting back is not an option if we want to maintain safe, quality schools.

📢 It’s time to invest in our schools and protect our community’s future! Vote YES on May 6 to keep Mad River Schools strong! 🗳️

🏫 20 Years Without a Permanent Improvement Levy – It’s Time to Invest! 🏫

For 20 years, Mad River Schools have operated without a Permanent Improvement (PI) Levy—meaning we’ve had to pull from operating funds to cover essential repairs and upgrades.

💰 Operating funds should go toward:
✔️ Student education
✔️ Classroom resources
✔️ Essential programs

🚧 Instead, we’re forced to use these funds for:
❌ Roof repairs
❌ HVAC replacements
❌ Pavement fixes

This is not sustainable. Without a PI Levy, more money will continue to be pulled away from student learning and put into costly facility repairs.

📢 It’s time to reinstate a dedicated funding source for school maintenance! Vote YES on May 6 to ensure our operating funds stay where they belong—in the classroom. 🗳️

🎶 Did You Know? PI Funds Support Our Music Program! 🎶

Our award-winning music department is a source of pride for Mad River Schools, but did you know that Permanent Improvement (PI) Levy funds help keep it strong?

🎺 What PI Funds Can Support:
✅ Instruments & equipment maintenance
✅ New band & choir equipment
✅ Sound system upgrades
✅ Music room improvements

Without capital improvement funds, our students won’t have the quality instruments and facilities they need to continue excelling.

📢 Let’s keep the music playing! Vote YES on May 6 to support our schools, our students, and our award-winning music program! 🗳️

🌱 Strong Schools = A Strong, Thriving Community 🌱

Just like in nature, there is a holistic system that defines the health and success of a community. At the center of that system? Our schools. 🏫

A strong school district creates a ripple effect that benefits everyone—whether you have children in school or not.

💡 Educated Students = A Strong Workforce – Schools prepare the next generation of workers, leaders, and innovators, helping to grow the local economy and attract businesses.

🏡 Higher Property Values – Well-maintained, high-performing schools make neighborhoods more desirable, increasing home values and protecting your investment.

👨‍👩‍👧 Stronger Families & Safer Communities – Schools are more than classrooms; they are community hubs where families connect, kids have safe places to grow, and programs support mental health and well-being.

💰 Economic Stability – Businesses and employers look for quality schools when deciding where to invest, creating more job opportunities and boosting local commerce.

Our schools are not just buildings—they are the heart of our community. ❤️ That’s why we need your support on May 6 to invest in our future and ensure our schools remain safe, strong, and well-maintained for generations to come.

🏫 Why Ohio’s School Funding System Puts the Burden on Local Communities 🏫

Did you know that Ohio’s school funding system makes it difficult for districts like Mad River to keep up with essential costs? Here’s why:

❌ State Funding is Unreliable – Ohio’s school funding model has been ruled unconstitutional multiple times, yet no permanent fix has been made. Schools don’t get the funding they need to keep up with inflation, rising costs, and necessary improvements.

❌ No Automatic Increases – Unlike other public services, schools do not get automatic funding increases as costs rise. That means districts must rely on local levies to maintain school buildings and provide quality education.

❌ Local Taxes Fill the Gap – The state shifts the burden to local taxpayers to cover basic costs like building repairs, technology upgrades, and safety improvements. Without community support, schools struggle to keep up.

🏡 This is why we rely on our residents. Without a YES vote on the May 6 Permanent Improvement Levy, Mad River Schools won’t have the dedicated funds needed to maintain our facilities and keep our schools safe and functional.

🏡 Investing in Our Schools = Protecting Your Property Value! 🏡

Did you know that strong, well-maintained schools have a direct impact on your property value? 💰

Here’s why:

✅ Higher Property Values – Homes in districts with well-funded, high-quality schools sell for more and hold their value better over time.

✅ Attractive to Homebuyers – Families want to live in areas with safe, well-maintained schools, increasing demand for homes in the community.

✅ Stronger Local Economy – Thriving schools attract businesses, keep property values stable, and boost community growth.

🏫 The Mad River Permanent Improvement Levy ensures that our school buildings remain in top shape—without increasing your tax burden.

💰 A small investment today protects your home’s value for the future. Let’s keep Mad River a great place to live, learn, and grow!

🗳 VOTE YES on May 6 to support our schools and our community!

🏫 Mad River Needs Your Support! 🗳️

Our community has always valued strong schools, and now we need your help to keep them thriving. On May 6, 2025, vote YES for the Mad River Schools Permanent Improvement Levy to ensure our students continue to have safe, well-maintained schools for years to come.

🔹 The Need:

✅ $2.9 mill levy to fund necessary school repairs and improvements.

💰 The Cost:

🏡 $8.50 per month for every $100,000 of appraised property value (Montgomery County Auditor).
💡 That’s $102 annually—a small investment to protect our schools and community!

A YES vote means:
✔️ Maintaining safe, quality school buildings
✔️ Repairing aging roofs, HVAC systems, and critical infrastructure
✔️ Protecting our investment in education for future generations

📢 Let’s keep our schools strong! Vote YES on May 6! 🗳
While our Fiscal Department has received the Auditor of State Awards for exceptional work quality, State funding is decreasing. Paired with the rising costs of maintaining our buildings and bus fleet, a PI Levy becomes very important, so we avoid choosing buses over books.

Why It Matters

🏫 Our schools are the heart of our community.

They are where students learn, teachers inspire, and our future is built. But after 20+ years, our buildings need repairs and upkeep to remain safe and functional.

🔨 Roof replacements
❄️ HVAC system upgrades
🏚 Structural maintenance

We have a responsibility to take care of what we built together. This 2.9 mill levy ensures our schools stay in great condition—without increasing your tax burden.

📢 Let’s keep our schools strong! Vote YES on May 6! 🗳
