Fantastic to be in church this morning at Central Community Christian Fellowship.

Really a blessing to listen in to different voices as guest preachers and applicants for the position of Lead Pastor share from the heart.

So very thankful for the dedication, commitment and time given by the Pastoral Search Committee during this period of transition. We've been blessed by every message shared.

Thanksgiving Day, 1988 to Thanksgiving Day, 2024 – 13,155 days – 37 Thanksgiving’s separated by 13,155 days.

The world has been through historic transformation.

Globally: The Fall of the Berlin Wall, The Velvet Revolution, failure of Communism and The Soviet Union, the end of Apartheid, September 11… and so much more…

We’ve been through 2 extreme collapses in the housing market that brought on worldwide financial crises… the Pandemic… Loma Prieta and Lander’s Earthquakes. Indian Ocean and Asian Earthquakes followed by their devastating tsunami’s that took the lives of hundreds of thousands. Wildfires here in California and around the world and war’s that just don’t seem to stop… breaking out like wildfire.

The Los Angeles Riots, the rise of homelessness, conflicts over immigration… and the tech boom, explosion of the internet, smart phones and smart watches that know when we fall down and text for help via satellites… in space…and Barry Bonds, of Riverside, California, broke both the one season and all-time home run records while Kawhi Leonard, from our neighborhood, won NBA Championships in both leagues, along with Finals MVP awards with multiple teams, joining only LaBron James and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

President Obama became our nations first black president. Something no one would’ve considered back in 1988.

And I retired.

Central Community’s, Community Wide, FREE Thanksgiving Dinner has been there through it all, along with so many other personal moments of triumph, tragedy and the turns that every life takes, and it continues as plans are already underway.

Someone sent Pastor Ken a loving video of Thanksgiving at Central Community, 2023, watching it, seeing myself now, as a mature adult, and reflecting on these many years of serving together, through so many changing times – so often the very best of times – I remembered that it happens just one year at a time.

This year. Don’t let another 13,155 days and all the moments of history slip away without cooking a turkey, sharing yourself, serving. Begin planning today.

I'm preaching on one the most important "Life Changing Choices" we can make this weekend - "I Will Remain Faithful." - from the parable of The Prodigal Son - Gospel of Luke, chapter 15

We'll share in communion one more time together...
