Golf for Injured Veterans Everywhere (GIVE) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides support for Iowa’s injured and disabled Veterans who use the Des Moines, Iowa City, and Sioux Falls Veterans Affairs healthcare systems.We help Iowa’s injured and disabled Veterans play golf. Each qualifying GIVE Veteran (along with an accompanying guest) gets access to our free golf instructional prog
ram, which helps them adapt their gameplay to overcome any injury or disability that stands in their way.The GIVE training program is taught by PGA professionals and includes specialized accessibility equipment, tailored to each Veteran’s needs. All the necessary equipment and clubs are provided completely free of charge and are given to the Veterans to keep once they’ve finished the course.Golf for Injured Veterans Everywhere began in 2007, initiated by Mr. Lou King’s legacy includes being a U.S. Navy WWII Veteran, University of Iowa quarterback, an executive at Amana Refrigeration, and Executive Director of the PGA of America.Lou knew that more needed to be done to support Iowa’s Veterans, especially those who had been left injured or disabled from their time in the service. So, he approached the Department of Veterans Affairs and Riverside Casino and Golf Resort owners —Dan and Bobby Kehl— with a brilliant initiative.He wanted to start a program that would teach Iowa’s injured and disabled Veterans golf, in order to help them adjust to civilian life while overcoming their physical and psychological traumas. With everyone’s support, GIVE became a reality.
