• Pumpkin has been through more than a dog ever should.

She was adopted, then returned weeks later for aggression- alleged attacks over food/ resources including redirecting. Our team discovered something else— Pumpkin was sick. She had a severe uterine infection (pyometra) that required emergency surgery, she was also very underweight. We don’t know the situation in the home, but we do know that pain can be a factor in behavior, and Pumpkin has been kenneled with another female here with no issue.
After surgery, Pumpkin developed a URI. Her little body is fighting but she is not feeling well. Through it all Josephine, quietly stays close, watching over her, standing guard, offering comfort the only way dogs know how to.

Josephine is now pending adoption. Yay Josephine 🥳
Pumpkin has no interest.

Pumpkin deserves a chance to heal. And a chance to be seen for who she is- a dog who went through illness, and upheaval, and still deserves stability, patience, and a home that understands her needs.

• Those eyes 🥺🙏
Gertrude is six years young and full of life & love ❤️ Yet she has been passed from shelter to shelter since September, waiting for someone to finally choose her 💔

She adores her stuffy toys, loves being close to her people, and has the biggest heart, even after so much uncertainty 🥹 This gal doesn’t act her age and will fetch with a ball or stuffy endlessly ❤️

She is housebroken, can be strong on the leash and will need someone willing to guide her, but what Gertrude needs most is a family who will not give up on her 🙏 She deserves a warm home, a soft toy to carry around, and a place where she can finally feel safe and stay forever. Can she be your new BFF? ❤️

Thanks to they have kindly paid her adoption fee and she gets to go on a shopping spree in the shelter’s Pet Boutique to pick out all the toys she wants ❤️

• .us The U.S. House of Representatives just voted to remove all Endangered Species Act protections for gray wolves in this country.

The escalation is alarming. So is the silence.

What’s most troubling isn’t just how fast wildlife protections are being dismantled—it’s how little serious discussion there is about better options. Complex ecological challenges are being flattened into fear, myths, and political talking points, while science-informed solutions are sidelined.

Congress works for the public. Not for big business. Not for special interest groups. Not for industries that profit from misinformation and manufactured conflict.

And yes—state wildlife agencies can mirror this same behavior. That’s exactly why state reform matters. When power is concentrated in unaccountable systems, harm accelerates. When governance is democratic, transparent, and science-led, there’s room to stop bad policy before it becomes irreversible damage.

Federal rollbacks are devastating. State-level reform is how we rebuild guardrails, restore public accountability, and create wildlife governance that actually serves ecosystems—not politics.

We can do better than this. But only if we insist on structural change, not just temporary wins.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated supplies to the 7 kittens and their momma, who were recently rescued from a terrible situation in LA.

Casey and her husband Omar have been doing the best they can to keep up with this litter of adorable felines.

Three are being treated for eye infections, and all of them still need to see the vet for vaccinations, microchipping, and to be spayed/neutered.

This is an expensive process, so if you'd like to contribute, we would greatly appreciate it. Anything helps 🙏

A few days ago, we were made aware of 8 kittens that were being held at a homeless encampment as food for a snake. That's when Casey Montejo and her husband rushed out to Compton, where the cats were being held and rescued all 8 of them! Upon arrival, they discovered that one of the kittens was pregnant!

K&L has offered to help sponsor all 8 cats to help Casey and her husband Omar care for these furbabies while we work on finding them loving forever homes.

Our current vet is on vacation, but our secondary vet, Pet Wellness Center, has given us an estimate (breakdown in link). We have added a buffer just in case there are any unexpected medical costs (like medication, etc.).
