Come Join us on July 24 at the Civil Rights Institute if Inland Southern California to celebrate the opening of the Building Our Region’s Korean Communities Exhibit and the 15th Anniversary of the YOK Center!

Building Our Region’s Korean Communities explores the untold stories of Korean Americans who lived, worked, and advocated for Korean independence in Inland Southern California.✨ Stories of faith, identity, and cooperation linked communities across our region: United States’ first Koreatown, Pachappa Camp in Riverside; the Redlands office of the KoreanNational Association; the failed cooperative community in Reche Canyon, the Korean Mission in Upland, and the Korean community that grew around the Claremont Colleges.🌟

🌸 Join us! Let’s celebrate and preserve these untold legacies.
📌 Opening ceremony: July 24, 2025 from 6 PM to 8 PM. (Doors open at 5:30 PM)

Thank you YOK Academy (LAUSD) for the wonderful visit to the YOK Center at UC Riverside on May 16. We had a great tour, excellent lunch, and wonderful talk about the importance of higher education. These awesome students participated in the Annual YOK Academy Quiz Bowl, where they compete for prizes by answering questions about the book "Unsung Hero: The Story of Col. Young O. Kim" and the top 5 winners receive gift cards and books provided by the YOK Center at UCR. Then we bring the top 50 participants of the quiz bowl to UCR for a tour and lunch at the Glasgow Dining Hall.

We are so grateful for this collaborative effort with the YOK Academy in LA and to Ms. Karla Quintero, Principle Jin, the teachers, chaperones, and students for making this all possible.

Young Oak Kim Center for Korean American Studies, UCR
Statement of Solidarity with the UAW Strike 2022

The Young Oak Kim Center for Korean American Studies at UCR stands in solidarity with the historic strike by UAW 286, UAW 5810, and SRU-UAW. UAW demands are reasonable and fair. We recognize the student workers, graduate student instructors, postdocs, and researchers, are the foundation of the University. Unfair labor practices need to be remedied. The UAW demands recognize the intellectual and physical labor our student workers go through daily, are exploitative. The demands by UAW for a living wage, respect, and dignity should be met by the University of California immediately.

At this critical moment in history, we must all stand together in solidarity and support one another as we make visible the labor struggles of UC student workers. The YOK Center stands in solidarity and in support of the UAW student strikes.
