Sound familiar? Your client did the estate planning right...the trust, the will, the beneficiary designations. Then the creditors arrive, and the surviving spouse inherits the problem instead of the estate.

Michael Gouveia has spent more than 25 years as a Riverside bankruptcy attorney and has represented clients at thousands of Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 hearings.

Today's ma*****na isn't what most of us learned about in school — and the gap between casual perception and clinical reality is wider than the legal profession has caught up to. ⚖️

The Juvenile Law Section's June session brings Amy Leinen Guldner, Esq. to walk attorneys through what modern cannabis actually does — to mental health, to professional competence, to the blurred lines between casual use, self-medication, addiction, and impairment — along with strategies for prevention and early intervention.

Ms. Guldner spent 25+ years as a civil litigator in California and Arizona, with primary practice areas in medical malpractice and product liability defense (automotive and pharmaceutical) at Snell & Wilmer and Morgan Lewis & Bockius. In 2010 she left Big Law to help start Montage Legal Group, a network of freelance attorneys. After finding her own life-changing freedom from alcohol in 2020, she founded Reframing Alcohol and Reframing Well-Being, and serves as head certified coach at Euphoric AF.

When the parents can't co-parent, the court appoints someone who can help them try. That role has a name - Parenting Plan Coordinator - and a body of best practices most family law attorneys haven't seen up close. ⚖️

The Family Law Section's June session brings Mitchell Rosen, LMFT to walk attorneys through what parenting coordination actually is — the court orders that appoint a PPC, the guidelines that govern the work, the qualifications and ethical obligations, and the practical questions counsel should be asking when a PPC is on the case.

Mr. Rosen is a licensed marriage and family therapist with a master's degree in clinical psychology. He has written 50+ child custody evaluations, has been appointed as a parenting plan coordinator, case manager, and special master in Riverside and Orange counties, and authored a weekly column on family life for the Riverside Press-Enterprise for over 20 years. He says his most valuable credential is being a father to a son and a daughter.

The Estate Planning, Probate & Elder Law Section's May session brings Jennifer Fejzic — Licensed Professional Fiduciary with Probate Fiduciary Services, Inc. — to walk through what real collaboration looks like: when to bring the fiduciary in, how to structure the working relationship, and how to keep complex estates from becoming contested ones.

The Family Law Section's May Townhall puts the Riverside County Family Law Bench in the room with the family law bar — a working session on what's changed, what's coming, and how the bench is actually applying it.
