Who could possibly believe the Ghermezians?
The Ghermezians and Triple Five, leave a path of destruction in each and every municipality they target. They regularly manipulate local elected officials through bribes, promises of personal business deals, wealth and eventually threats. A cursory review will reveal that they target local officials, in each of their sordid deals, who they either find gullible, easilly corrupted, or most problematic for their goals. In every instance, the individual typically goes from absolute opposition to greatest supporter in a matter of days. Sound familiar?
They build MALLS. That is their ONLY tangible business. They "refuse to allow employees to use that term", according to Don Ghermezian. They prefer "Mixed Use Innovative Retailtainment Venues and Experiential Learning Destination Centers". Even with a proper, well written contract, they aggressively steamroll large, sophisticated County and State governments. Imagine what is about to happen to Riverhead! The current contract, may as well have been written by their own lawyers. They have refused us even the most basic of financial plans and projections. Without further covenants, they essentially have free reign, to do almost anything they like, after the bizzarely undervalued land is in their greedy hands. They are not ethically qualified, nor morally eligible to wield power over our citizens.
There are extremely fragile eco-systems, as well as wetlands, rare grasslands and even several endangered species on the Calverton parcel. It is one of the last, truly unique and environmentally diverse, reclaimed natural open spaces on the east end. They promise high paying jobs and the restoration of Riverhead as an aerospace industrial center, that is clearly a simple manipulation, appealing to a nostalgic return to an idealized history. They claim that Riverhead will become like, "Silicon Valley". If you believe that...well, we can assure you, that you are quite mistaken!
In fact, the plans are so vague and grandiose, they sound like pure fantasy. There is a very good reason for that...they are! The type of high altitude, internet beacon aircraft they propose, have been abandoned by major corporations, like Google and Facebook, after tremendous costs and catastrophic failures. Airbus and Boeing express serious doubts, in the face of newer and more realistic technologies. The presentations are absurd, and the brochhures are actually cut and pasted hastily together, like a last minute Junior High project! The documents we demanded still have never been furnished to us. Why? Because you would have to have actual plans, that correspond with claims, in order to fulfill our requests.
Do you really think Daniel Preston and CAT are going to fare better? Unfortunately, it is likely he too is being manipulated, by whom many in media have referred to as... "Canada's Greediest Family".
This sale is driven solely by the very deep seated, quite well known and noteworthy, Ghermezian greed. They smell opportunity and naivate, and they have descended upon our town. A town that could indeed be restored to a lovely quaint hamlet,m without any such poeople involved. In fact, if planned properly moving forward, we are already well on our way! Triple Five are not altruists, they have no experience whatsoever in the types of aerospace engineering they claim a financial interest or infrastructure expertise in . They see opportunity, not to grow a community, but to amass personal wealth. This what Triple Five does best, every time, take a look at their track record of Bait, Bribe and Switch!
They know full well that corporate welfare is alive and well in Riverhead. They know that the more they have, the more we give. The Industrial Development Agency, will grant decades of tax abatements, and other ongoing subsidies, that are drawn directly from the taxpayer. Despite our Town suffering, from often unseen homelessness and hunger, large corporations remain well fed by our citizens wallets thanks to the IDA. The Ghermezians don't need our money, but many of the poorest families and children of the community sure do!
The potential negative consequences for our schools, utilities and essential services like police and fire departments will be burdened. Traffic, and pollution in the form of further deteriorated water and air quality, overcrowding, and a suburban sprawl that is simply unsustainable, is inevitable with Triple Five.
We call upon all of you to implore Mr Wooten, and Mr Hubbard to come to their senses! Giglio is far too involved with the Ghermezians, through her secret meetings. The perception of impartiality is destroyed. The only hope for her, is that she will follow the recommendation on the ethics board, which should be to abstain! However, she has refused to publicly state whether or not she would follow such a directive. This calls into question who she truly serves, Triple Five or the people of Riverhead?
