Hope and Resilience Long Island-HARLI

Hope and Resilience Long Island-HARLI HARLI’s mission is to end domestic violence and sexual assault within our community.

HARLI was founded to meet the increasing need for Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault support and services on Long Island. Over the past decade, the population on the East End of Long Island has increased on average 25-30%, especially after the onset of the Covid-19 Pandemic. With 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men experiencing domestic abuse and nationally 463,364 adults and children being traumatized by

sexual assault in one year, the number of people in our own community needing support services has increased dramatically. We are here to offer trauma informed support and services, with bilingual advocates and case managers and referrals to legal and counseling services. May is a month of beautiful contradictions. We celebrate the mothers in our lives, their tenderness, their fierceness, their unshakeable love. And we use this month to shine a light on mental health, to break the silence, lift the stigma, and remind each other that it is okay not to be okay.

This morning I met with a mom, one of my clients, who is struggling...especially emotionally. After months of court, to gain custody of her child, she told me today how overwhelmed she feels. She has lost days of work, housing is not always secure, and she's trying to keep her child emotionally healthy through it all....she doesn't know where to turn....

Yesterday, another client texted me that she feels so defeated with all the stress she is under. She was finally able to leave her abusive partner, but now every child pick-up and drop-off is an opportunity for the other parent to put her down, speak with veiled threats or tell the children she is a bad mom. She now faces months of stressful court dates as they work out the final custody agreement.

Hope and Resilience Long Island-HARLI provides trauma counseling in English and Spanish for our clients. We partner with independent, licensed providers and our organization pays for their services, but we can't do it without your help!

Please consider helping one of our many clients this Mother's Day Month with a donation directed to our Trauma Counseling Fund.
We appreciate your support!💐💜
