This new healing space will expand life-changing programs for veterans, first responders, at-risk youth, and more—where rescued horses help people heal.

Garret’s Promise Foundation was established in 2021 after the passing of Garret Louis Lederman at just 28 years old.

After beginning bereavement counseling through East End Hospice at Spirit’s Promise Equine Rescue, the ranch became our sanctuary, where we are proud to have contributed to the construction of a round pen to ensure year-round equine therapy.

We asked the talented photographer Jim Lennon to capture the beauty of the seasons there, but he took this beyond what was imagined. These images are a testament to the healing power of this incredible sanctuary and the kindred spirits it fosters.

Although he never met Garret, Jim was inspired to dedicate "Kindred Spirits" to him, moved by the "everlasting impression" Garret left that motivates family and friends to honor his legacy through meaningful work.

It was an honor to be featured in Dan's Papers May 26th issue, where we discussed healing in the relationship between horses and humans. What we honor the most about these majestic beings is how they made their way to Spirit's Promise in need of rescue because of two-legged beings (humans), yet are spending the rest of their lives living and forgiving as they serve two-legged beings through emotional turmoil.

On May 21st, we are hosting our first empowerment workshop with our very own Marisa Striano.

Throughout our work, we have encountered many people who don’t believe in themselves and struggle to communicate their needs. ‘You Are Enough’ leverages horses’ empathic nature, allowing others to see themselves through a different type of mirror – a horse.
