RRAS is a city municipal animal shelter and can only accept animals from River Rouge and Ecorse, Michigan, USA. The improved shelter is now very rescue friendly, but is still small. We do our best to network the animals in hopes of reuniting them w their rightful owner, finding suitable adopters, or rescues.

Update on sweet boy Pogo almost a week post surgery to have his eyes removed.

His foster family is taking the very best care of him. He even got to enjoy a pup cup, and boy did he EVER!

In another week or so, sweet Pogo will be going in for his dental, which will be quite extensive as he has lots of really bad teeth.

What a blessing it is that these guests who require big surgeries are able to heal and be comforted in homes w loving fosters rather than a shelter. There is just no way we could do what we do without our families who step up.

Once our boy is all healed up he’s gonna need a really good home to go to.

Thank you Tyler family. 🥰

Yesterday, our Keela Bee got to go out for a doggy day out dogventure with a really nice person named Tammy.

Keela has been with us for over a year. She is five years old. She is very sweet and affectionate, and she is fully vetted.

Keela Bee has what we call a “prey drive” meaning she should not be with cats or small dogs, and this is a not so uncommon trait in dogs. Other than that she came from a home with other dogs her size. She loves everyone and she is sweet and gentle and loves to play.

Keela would love to be in a home. A YEAR in a shelter is a very long time. 😞

Thank you Tammy for getting her out and giving her a very nice break from her small kennel at the shelter.

The ladies from Amalgamated UAW Local 1781 Women’s and Recreation Committee also enjoyed meeting Caramel Corn.

CC it’s a very sweet girl who came to us as a stray a few weeks ago. No one has claimed her and we are utterly shocked. She is in good shape, and we know she has lived with a family in a home. How or why she ended up out on the streets will always be a mystery because of course they can’t tell us.

What we do know is that this girl deserves a good home and we are going to work very hard to make sure she gets it.

Correction- Caramel Corn has already been spayed and is now recovered from her surgery. She is fully vetted, heartworm negative, on all prevents, and would love a home of her own.

Please share.

The ladies from Amalgamated UAW Local 1781 Women’s and Recreation Committee enjoyed meeting Miss Canada and Miss Canada was soaking up ALL that LOVE. Thank you ladies!

As was mentioned, Miss Canada has been at the shelter for over a YEAR. Please help us to find her her forever home by hitting the share button.

Miss Canada is nine years old. She was abandoned in Delray by her family. The very people who were supposed to keep her safe. Thankfully, a compassionate Canadian truck driver saw her and picked her up and brought her to the shelter for safekeeping.

MC was in horrendous shape at that time. She has undergone surgery for breast cancer and she is a survivor! She has been spayed while in our care and she is heartworm negative, fully vaccinated, and loves all humans.

We are looking for a home with no other pets, as our girl wants all of the attention.

Today was our once a month visit from our Volunteer vet tech Rachel and typically LVT Brianna, but today instead we got to see Dr. Judy! What a treat because she can administer rabies vaccines.

Our newest guests got their heartworm tests and we are so happy that all of them who were tested today are indeed negative. This on the heels of our sweet girl JoJo going to the Paws Clinic earlier this week and testing positive. So what a relief it is to know that Mocha Latte, Pinto Bean, and Mia are all negative 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

A former resident who we helped with outreach with the help of our vet techs stopped by today because King, Earl’s 11-year-old Shepherd had very itchy ears. Rachel was nice enough to check them and it was determined he does not have an ear infection just allergies. So we were able to set him up with some flea and tick preventatives which sometimes alleviates the problem.

It is your donations that enable us to purchase vaccines and flea/HW/tick preventatives. Without the help of our supporters and friends, we could do none of this.

Thank you, Dr. Judy and Rachel for your time spent today and the length of miles that you had to travel all the way from Dundee to get here. We appreciate you more than you know.
