The primary mission of the Cache Humanitarian Center is to identify unmet needs of area residents and to strive to meet those needs through networking, collaborating, and coordinating with non-profits & school districts, then distributing valued items. A $2,000 grant from the Rotary District Governor’s Collaborative Grant program helped CVHC get started, and the Logan School District provided a do
uble-wide portable classroom for the center’s use. The Grant was intended to enhance Rotary clubs’ engagement with community partners. In it first six months, CVHC did precisely that: It worked closely with three school districts and 20 area non-profit organizations to create and distribute products the non-profits said their clientele would make good use of. With 894 service hours from Rotarians and 2,668 hours from community volunteers, those products included: hundreds of back-to-school kits and backpacks; more than a thousand hygiene kits; 150 therapy rice bags; more than 2,000 coats, quilts, and other winter wear; support for homeless and recent immigrants; 500 Spanish language books and 500 general interest books to establish a Navajo community library. A voluntary board of 10 has created by-laws and worked to acquire business permits and 501©3 status.
