Nu Rho Psi

Nu Rho Psi Nu Rho Psi - Headquarters Nu Rho Psi is also open to qualifying Neuroscience faculty and alumni of Neuroscience programs.

Membership is by invitation and is open to graduate and undergraduate men, women, and people who are making the study of Neuroscience one of their major interests and who meet the other academic qualifications. Requirements for membership include:

• Major or minor in Neuroscience
• Completion of at least 3 semesters of the College course
• Completion of at least 9 semester hours of Neuroscience-r

elated courses

Students and faculty are elected to membership by the chapter at participating institutions, according to the provisions in the national Nu Rho Psi Constitution. Any chapter, at its discretion, may establish higher academic standards for eligibility, but may not require lower standards for eligibility. Membership in Nu Rho Psi is open to qualified candidates regardless of age, sex, sexual orientation, race handicap or disability, color, religion, or national or ethnic origin. The first and foremost benefit of Nu Rho Psi membership is the honor and recognition of academic excellence. Almost all graduate schools and employers ask for a list of honors. Membership in Nu Rho Psi is a way of building these credentials. Members receive membership certificates and lapel pins as an indication of the honor. Beyond this, Nu Rho Psi membership is a springboard for the networking of like-minded colleagues interested in the study of the brain. The Society offers competitive travel grants that allow its members to attend the Society for Neuroscience and Faculty for Undergraduate Neuroscience annual meetings. As the Society transitions to a regional structure over the next few years, there will also be regional and national meetings where neuroscientists from around the country will gather to share scientific findings. News and information will be available to members via the Nu Rho Psi online newsletter.

This , we’re recognizing our award recipients from last year’s application cycle.

Lake Forest College (γ-IL) was selected as the 2024-2025 Chapter of the Year. As one of our earliest chartered chapters, Lake Forest continues to support its students through a variety of events, such as the Robert Glassman symposium, featuring student researchers, several seminars, and unique ways to showcase the annual theme; Career Advancement spotlight sessions targeting professional development strategies; and continued mentorship between members. Additionally, they deepened the connection of Nu Rho Psi by fostering connections between members of the chapter from the undergraduate level to faculty and working professionals and continually inducting graduate and professional-level members; supported 50 neuroscience students to attend the 2024 SfN meeting, with nine students and two NRP leaders presenting; and created their engaging Chapter Activity Grant-supported event “Demure Perspectives on Social Media” event, centering the annual theme on Social Media and the Brain!

We’re excited to share even more about the activities and members of the Lake Forest College with you, stay tuned! Stay up to date on their activities via their page “Neuroscience Department at Lake Forest College”.

This , we’re recognizing our award recipients from last year’s application cycle.

Dr. Sarah Clark, senior lecturer in Neuroscience and Associate Director of the Undergraduate Studies at Georgia State University, was selected as the 2024-2025 Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year. Dr. Clark received her Bachelor’s of Science in Community Psychology from UNC - Charlotte, later pursuing a Ph.D. in Molecular Neuroscience at George Mason University. Before joining GSU’s faculty and continuing to her Ph.D., she worked in an inpatient psychiatric facility. As a faculty member, her research specializations are cellular and molecular neuroscience, genetics, and developmental neuroscience investigating the cellular and molecular mechanisms of neuronal development and diversification.

Both within and outside of the lab, Dr. Clark has a true dedication to students. At the time of her nomination, she was mentoring 18 undergraduates and post-baccalaureate researchers, as well as 3 graduate students, co-organized the Excellence in Inclusive Teaching Experience (ExITE) Workshop to create more engagement and foster inclusive learning environments, aided countless neuroscience students in utilizing their degree within health professions, and co-organizes the Neuroscience Institute Research Seminar Series.

Her nominator said “The students rave about her mentorship, and she know some of the smallest details about those she mentors. Dr. Clark is a pleasure to work with, and always steps up to create new courses or serve in roles where students are best served.”

Congratulations Dr. Clark, your dedication to the field of neuroscience and its newest professionals is truly exemplary!
