You are not alone! May is Mental Health Awareness Month, an opportunity to share our stories, fight the stigma, and let others know they don't have to fight mental illness alone.

At our Clubhouses, we know that healing doesn't happen in isolation - it happens in community. This month, check in on your loved ones. Share your story and lived experience. No one should suffer in silence.💚

You are not alone. Thank you Ken Barlow for sharing your story.

What I’ve learned over the years…

At 25, I thought my energy was a gift.

At 20, I went to the doctor because I felt too “up”.
“Everything looks normal,” they said.

In my 30’s I couldn’t get out of bed for days.
“Probably allergies,” they said.

So I kept going.

Until my 40’s…
When everything sped up.
“You have vertigo,” they said.

No sleep.
Losing weight…didn’t “need” to eat.
Running on a treadmill at 2AM.

Then one night I collapsed at home.

I woke up in a hospital bed.

A week of my life gone. I don’t remember being there the week before.

That was 2007.

It took me years to face it.

In 2012, I finally said it out loud:

I have Bipolar 1 disorder.

Here’s what I know now:

Mental illness doesn’t always look like a struggle.
Sometimes it looks like success.
Like drive. Like ambition.
Like pushing yourself…way too far.

But here’s the truth:

It’s not weakness.
It’s not something to hide.
And it CAN be treated.

Since sharing my story 14 years ago, thousands of you have shared yours.

So if you need to hear this today:

You are not alone…We are not alone.

At 25, I didn’t know what I was feeling.

At 64, I understand this:

Asking for help is a strength.
And there is hope on the other side.
❤️😊

Stress affects all of us, and taking care of our mental health starts with understanding how we cope and how we care for ourselves. Self-care and mindfulness are not luxuries—they are practical, everyday tools that help reduce stress, manage emotions, and support overall well-being. From getting enough rest and moving our bodies, to building supportive relationships and practicing mindfulness in the moment, small intentional actions can make a meaningful difference.
