Throwback to Summer 2018 — a packed campfire circle, glowing firelighters, and another night of pageantry, accomplishments, song, and Horseshoe memories. 🔥

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of gathering together under the trees as the campfire crackles and the spirit of camp comes alive.

In just a few short weeks, the campfire circle at Camp Horseshoe will once again be filled with Scouts, staff, and traditions old and new. We can’t wait.

📜 Take the Camp Horseshoe History Challenge!

Participants search for historic markers, buildings, landmarks, and clues hidden throughout camp while learning about:

🥾 Decades of Scouting traditions, milestones, and camp lore
📚 The people and stories that shaped Horseshoe into what it is today

The challenge continues to grow thanks to the incredible work of the Horseshoe Scout Reservation Alumni Association, whose volunteers preserve camp history through the HSRAA Virtual Museum and by developing historical signage and interpretive displays throughout camp. These markers help bring Horseshoe’s story to life for every new generation of Scouts and Scouters.

As Camp Horseshoe approaches its 100th Anniversary, there has never been a better time to explore the stories, traditions, and legends that make this place special.

Be sure to pick up a competition sheet in Headquarters this summer!

Will you complete the challenge this summer? 👀

Introducing our 2026 Headquarters Director, Bradley Gerwig!

Bradley returns to Camp Horseshoe for his fourth summer on staff and second consecutive year as Headquarters Director. In one of the camp’s most public-facing leadership roles, Bradley helps ensure that Scouts, leaders, and staff can find the answers, resources, and support they need throughout the summer.

Known for his problem-solving mindset and willingness to connect people with the right resources, Bradley plays a key role in keeping camp administration running smoothly behind the scenes while helping create a welcoming experience at Headquarters.

Bradley shares:
“I feel privileged every summer to help build new memories for the next generation of Scouters at a camp that has meant so much to me for most of my life.”

Outside of camp, Bradley recently graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Materials Science and Engineering, where he helped found and lead the university’s Bladesmithing and Jazz Clubs. He is also an accomplished trumpet player and proudly serves as bugler during evening retreat ceremonies at camp.

Having spent more than three quarters of his life attending Camp Horseshoe and Camp Ware, Bradley deeply values the traditions and memories that make the reservation special. He’s excited to return to Headquarters for another summer along the Octoraro Bend.
