🌟 Exciting Rotary Meeting Update! 🌟 Today was extra special as we officially welcomed the newest member of our Rotary family, Ryan Taylor! 🤝 Fun fact: his mother, , has been a long-time cherished member of our club.

Our guest speaker, the incredible Richard Napoleon Brown, graced us with his presence. 🎤 Not only did he recently extend a helping hand to Glenn Kahl by providing transportation during car troubles, but he's also a renowned musical talent! 🎶 You might recognize him from his performances at Almond Valley Church and the Falcon Lair.

Richard shared his remarkable journey, filled with challenges that could've easily bred bitterness. Instead, he radiates joy and gratitude. 🌈 Today's meeting was a true showcase of what Rotary does best—bringing inspiring individuals together to share their gifts and uplift one another. 🤗✨

We heard from the new Ripon Police Department Chief, Danny Sauer yesterday. Ripon is in good hands with Chief Sauer at the helm. We want to support this great department in a tangible way. Hoping this new drone will help keep the community and officers safe.

The Ripon Police Department is looking at adding another drone. The unmanned aircraft system is used by local police, providing situational awareness and additional information as an eye in the sky.

We got to go on a field trip to the Ripon Community Garden today. President of the garden, and fellow Rotarian, Joan Martin Graham hosted us. It was wonderful to sit outside and see food being grown by our neighbors. Did you know the Garden has 12 boxes they plant and donate the harvest to the Ripon Senior Center and Bethany Home? They're keeping our seniors healthy!

Thanks also goes to Isabel's Vintage Cafe or the delicious box lunches.

This week at Rotary we heard from San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors Chairman Robert Rickman. Robert represents the 5th District. It covers south San Joaquin County, and includes Escalon, Mountain House, Ripon, Tracy, and associated unincorporated areas.

The supervisors have a lot on their agenda. One item Robert has helped facilitate should help with illegal dumping in our rural areas. Violators can now be prosecuted via video or still images of their license plate. They no longer need to be caught in the act by law enforcement. San Joaquin County residents are urged to report illegal dumping when they see it by using the MySanJoaquin App, or calling (209) 468-3074. You can read more here, https://www.sjgov.org/press-releases/press-release-detail/2023/05/23/sjc-officially-launches-illegal-dumping-campaign

Another program the county offers are rebates on yard equipment. You can get up to $250 back if you replace an old gas powered lawn mower with a new electric lawn mower. They also have rebate programs for older vehicles. More can be found here, https://ww2.valleyair.org/grants/clean-green-yard-machines-residential/

Thank you Supervisor Rickman for updating us on all the projects you're working on. You are welcome at Ripon Rotary any time!

Yesterday was a big day for Ripon Rotary. We were honored to be selected as one of the non-profits 'Rhythm on the Range' proceeds benifited. Spring Creek General Manager Steve Hupe presented President John Mangelos a check for just over $9,000. This money will go directly back into the community through the work of Ripon Rotary.

We were also treated to a great presantation by UC Master Gardener and Master Food Preserver Kathy Anderson. Kathy is part of the UC Cooperative Extension. This program is best described as a vast network of UC researchers and educators who work together to develop and provide science-based information to solve locally-relevant economic, agricultural, natural resource, youth (4-H) development and nutrition issues. It's a resource available to everyone in the community. Our counties program is based out of the Robert J. Cabral Ag Center off of Arch Road. There are free classes available to the public on all sorts of areas.

You can even train to become a UC Master Food Preserver and UC Master Gardener volunteer. https://ucanr.edu/sites/NSJMFP/Become_a_UC_Master_Food_Preserver/

BTW, be sure to wash your leafy greens. They are the number one cause of food poisoning!

We were all ready to go get our spray tan and teeth whitened after our great conversation with Rayna Anaya, owner of Faux Glow in downtown Ripon. They are hosting a Sip n' Shop event tomorrow, August 17, from 4-7. Stop by and tell them Ripon Rotary sent you! They are at 114 W. Main St, right next door to Gold Dust Pizza.
