“And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years, and had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse, when she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague. And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes? And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing. But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth. And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭5‬:‭25‬-‭34‬ ‭

1) The scriptures do not give the name of “a certain woman,” but in the 4th century her Greek name was said to have been “Berenice,” in Latin, “Veronica.”
2) She not only believed in Jesus when she heard about Him, she spoke her faith out loud.
3) How did Jesus know that power had gone out of Him?
4) Because the woman touched His garment with so much FAITH.
5) Jesus called her “Daughter”
6) She was healed physically and spiritually

(The mosaic of this beautiful miracle is from the 4th century, found in the catacombs in Rome)

“And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree; boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭11‬:‭17‬-‭18‬

We were given permission a few years ago to go down into a cave on Mt. Zion in Jerusalem, where some of the early Jewish Christians were worshipping while being under persecution by the unbelieving Jews.

Some of the Gentiles had started hearing the gospel and were receiving Christ. (Like Cornelius in Acts 10) This symbol was found in the cave to explain the Jews understanding of the Gentiles being saved without having to keep the Law.

(The Menorah (Israel) the Star of David (Messiah came through the House of David) the Fish, the first disciples were fishermen, and became also a sign for the Gentile believers)

The Gentiles were being grafted into the natural olive tree (Israel) by their faith in Christ. The Church does not have a Gentile origin. The first Christians were Jews, and through the unbelief of the nation of Israel, the Gentiles who believe in Jesus get to enjoy the blessings of Israel.

This symbol marks a very important transition in first-century Christianity!

“Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭18‬:‭21‬-‭22‬ ‭

Once we have experienced the grace and mercy of Christ, then He gives us the grace and mercy to forgive others.

The mark of a genuine follower of Jesus is showing forgiveness to others.

“Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭7‬ ‭
