Help Kafui Build a Business in Ghana: J&J Home Fresh Market
Kafui is one of the hardest working former Dream On students. After she graduated from EKGS Culinary Institute in Cake Making & Sugar Arts, she took a job with a company to hone her skills in business management, customer service, marketing, and sales while also operating a side business making beautiful custom cakes at home.
In Ghana, it is common for businesses to be created in shipping containers. It’s a popular, cost-effective, and rapid alternative to traditional brick-and mortar structures. Kafui has diligently saved her money and was able to purchase land and a container for her business. She has begun the first stages of construction: placement of the container, roofing, lining the inside with plywood, installing the electrical components inside, and tiling the floor, which can be seen in the photos.
At this point, Kafui needs some help to continue. I’d like to share Kafui’s vision for J&J Home Fresh Market and ask for your help to make her dream come to life.
Originally, Kafui had wanted to open up a bakery as her training was in cake making and pastries; however, after conducting research on area businesses and consumer needs, Kafui has decided to take a different approach. J & J Home Fresh Market will focus on selling farm fresh raw meats and vegetables, spices, and dry goods.
Kafui’s business will offer the following services: (1) fresh meats and produce available for bulk purchase; (2) ready-made meal kits that will include essential items for a single home cooked meal; (3) freshly packed boxed lunches for students to grab-and-go on their way to nearby schools; (4) a small assortment of homemade cookies, pastries, and meat pies.
The following is a list of needs for Kafui to complete her business:
Electricity Meter - $500US
Freezer - $600US
Refrigerator - $300
Shelves & workmanship - $280
Signboard – $100
Air Conditioner – $350

The story behind the name of the business:
Kafui’s given name is Jemima, which she is commonly called in school and work life, while she is known to friends and family as Kafui. The president of Dream On International is Jennifer Millett-Barrett. Kafui wanted to honor Jennifer in some way to show her gratitude for the support she has given to Kafui throughout the years. The J&J stands for Jemima & Jennifer to symbolize how they have walked side by side on Kafui’s journey in life.
