The Southeastern Ohio Safety Council (SOSC) is a non-profit collaborative of nearly 60 employers in Gallia, Jackson, Meigs, and Vinton counties who are dedicated to improving the health, wellness, and safety of our workplaces and communities. io Grande every 3rd Tuesday of the month (August - June), from 12:00 to 1:00pm, in the Davis University’s Alumni Heritage Room. Each meeting features a fully-catered lunch and professional speaker on a topic related to workplace health, wellness, or safety. MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS

April’s safety council meeting will be in-person at the University of Rio Grande. The topic is “Rethinking Leadership” and will be presented by Mike Thompson, Owner of Mountain View Leadership. This will be a good one so you don’t want to miss it!

March’s VIRTUAL safety council meeting will highlight “Ohio BWC Programs, Services, and Savings Opportunities"

February’s safety council meeting will be in-person at the University of Rio Grande. The topic is “Fair Chance Workforce” and is sponsored by BESTOhio and FuturePlans. Fair Chance Workforce in Ohio focuses on expanding opportunities for individuals with prior convictions to access employment.

The meeting is open to the public. Lunch and door prizes provided!

January’s safety council meeting will feature our annual OSHA Recordkeeping & Updates discussion. It will be in-person at our normal meeting location at the University of Rio Grande on January 20th. The presenter will be Roger Hoback, BWC Industrial Safety Consultant Specialist.
Safety council meetings are free and open to the public.

Just in time for the holidays, the topic of December’s VIRTUAL safety council meeting is “Managing Holiday Stress.”
Sponsored by Gallia-Jackson-Meigs ADAMH Board, the presenter will be Abbey McGee. Abbey is a Community Behavioral Health Manager at Integrated Services for Behavioral Health.

November’s Safety Council Meeting will cover Bloodborne Pathogen Protections. This in-person training will be presented by Rick Wisecup, EMT-P, EMS-I. Lunch and door prizes will be provided!

Training Summary:
Bloodborne Pathogen (BBP) training is essential for anyone who may come into contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials (OPIM) at work. The training covers topics such as recognizing risks, understanding how pathogens spread, and using protective gear.

October’s SOSC meeting will feature Shanna Dunbar, owner and founder of Workplace Health Inc. She will discuss "Comfort at Your Workstation - The Latest in Ergonomic Factors." The presentation covers both seated computer workstations and those in manufacturing or other settings.

Each year, people are injured or lose their lives due to accidental contact with power lines or electrical equipment. Join us to learn best practices for staying safe during a first-hand look at electrical dangers using Buckeye Rural Electric Cooperative’s (BREC) new Live Wire Electrical Safety Trailer.

The first meeting of the 2025-26 program year will be held on August 19th in the Davis University Center’s Alumni Heritage Room (University of Rio Grande). The topic will be "Everyday Safety" and will feature Keith Saunders, a certified OSHA trainer and retired faculty member in the Industrial Maintenance program. He will help us identify some of our greatest everyday safety vulnerabilities at home and work. Fortunately, most of these risks can be avoided or minimized with proper preparation and vigilance.

The Southeastern Ohio Safety Council (SOSC) is currently accepting new members for the upcoming BWC program year through July 31, 2025. Sponsored by the University of Rio Grande, SOSC is a non-profit collaborative of nearly 60 employers in our region who are dedicated to improving the health, wellness, and safety of our workplaces and communities.

All meetings feature a live presentation on a workplace health, wellness, or safety topic, which takes place virtually or in-person at the University of Rio Grande every 3rd Tuesday of the month (August - May). Please see the meeting schedule below. In-person meetings include lunch and giveaways.

MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS
