The Southeastern Ohio Safety Council (SOSC) is a non-profit collaborative of nearly 60 employers in Gallia, Jackson, Meigs, and Vinton counties who are dedicated to improving the health, wellness, and safety of our workplaces and communities. SOSC is safety program sponsored by Ohio BWC and the University of Rio Grande. SOSC features in-person lunch meetings which take place at the University of Rio Grande every 3rd Tuesday of the month (August - June), from 12:00 to 1:00pm, in the Davis University’s Alumni Heritage Room. Each meeting features a fully-catered lunch and professional speaker on a topic related to workplace health, wellness, or safety. MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS

Please join us for the next Southeastern Ohio Safety Council meeting on September 15th from 12:00 - 1:00 PM in the Davis University Center Alumni Heritage Room at the University of Rio Grande.

This month's presentation will feature Dr. Brad Profitt, DC, DPT, DScPT, who will discuss the important role of ergonomics in workplace health and safety. Drawing from more than 25 years of experience treating spine and orthopedic conditions, Dr. Profitt will provide practical strategies to help reduce workplace injuries, improve employee comfort, and promote long-term musculoskeletal health. Attendees will gain valuable insights into identifying ergonomic risk factors and implementing simple solutions that can enhance both worker well-being and organizational productivity.

Lunch and door prizes will be provided.
We encourage you to invite your friends, coworkers, and colleagues to attend this informative session and connect with fellow safety professionals from across the region.

SAFETY COUNCIL MEETING – TRANSPORTATION SAFETY - AUGUST 18TH!!!

The first meeting of the year will be held in-person on August 18th in the Davis University Center’s Alumni Heritage Room (University of Rio Grande). The topic is “Transportation Safety” and will be led by Troy Johnson. Please see and share the attached promotional flyer.

Lunch and door prizes will be provided and all attendees will receive a SOSC-branded car safety tool so please feel free to invite your friends and colleagues.

The Southeastern Ohio Safety Council (SOSC) is currently accepting new members for the upcoming BWC program year through August 31, 2026. Sponsored by the University of Rio Grande, SOSC is a non-profit collaborative of nearly 60 employers in our region who are dedicated to improving the health, wellness, and safety of our workplaces and communities.
All meetings feature a live presentation on a workplace health, wellness, or safety topic, which takes place virtually or in-person at the University of Rio Grande every 3rd Tuesday of the month (August - May). Please see the meeting schedule below. In-person meetings include lunch and giveaways.
MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS

Visit the SOSC Website https://www.rio.edu/safetycouncil and complete and return the Enrollment Form to [email protected] by August 31, 2026 to qualify for the BWC safety council rebate in the 2026-27 program year.

June's Safety Council meeting will feature FREE health screenings and information provided by Holzer Health Systems. Health checks include: glucose, blood sugar, bone density, BMI, cholesterol, blood pressure checks, and more. FREE lunch and giveaways included.

The Health & Wellness Fair will take place at 12:00 – 1:00pm, in the Davis University Center’s Alumni Heritage Room (URG).

This event is free and open to the public!

April’s safety council meeting will be in-person at the University of Rio Grande. The topic is “Rethinking Leadership” and will be presented by Mike Thompson, Owner of Mountain View Leadership. This will be a good one so you don’t want to miss it!

March’s VIRTUAL safety council meeting will highlight “Ohio BWC Programs, Services, and Savings Opportunities"

February’s safety council meeting will be in-person at the University of Rio Grande. The topic is “Fair Chance Workforce” and is sponsored by BESTOhio and FuturePlans. Fair Chance Workforce in Ohio focuses on expanding opportunities for individuals with prior convictions to access employment.

The meeting is open to the public. Lunch and door prizes provided!

January’s safety council meeting will feature our annual OSHA Recordkeeping & Updates discussion. It will be in-person at our normal meeting location at the University of Rio Grande on January 20th. The presenter will be Roger Hoback, BWC Industrial Safety Consultant Specialist.
Safety council meetings are free and open to the public.

Just in time for the holidays, the topic of December’s VIRTUAL safety council meeting is “Managing Holiday Stress.”
Sponsored by Gallia-Jackson-Meigs ADAMH Board, the presenter will be Abbey McGee. Abbey is a Community Behavioral Health Manager at Integrated Services for Behavioral Health.

November’s Safety Council Meeting will cover Bloodborne Pathogen Protections. This in-person training will be presented by Rick Wisecup, EMT-P, EMS-I. Lunch and door prizes will be provided!

Training Summary:
Bloodborne Pathogen (BBP) training is essential for anyone who may come into contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials (OPIM) at work. The training covers topics such as recognizing risks, understanding how pathogens spread, and using protective gear.
