2026 Operation Purple Heart

Starr County 4-H Council President, Diego Geronimo Guerra is honoring veterans and strengthening our community through citizenship. Diego has teamed up with The Purple Heart Project from Boerne, Texas. This ia a non- profit, sanctioned to commemorate our combat-wounded veterans by recognizing Purple Heart recipients and educating the public on their contribution to freedom.

Through the Purple Heart Project Parking Sign initiative, communities have an opportunity to recognize recipients by designating a parking spot reserved just for them. Diego is providing labor, materials and supplies at no cost to the property owners. These signs will help designate parking slots for Purple Heart recipients that reside in or visit our county.

The project has kicked off with the R.G.C.C.I.S.D. Joe R. Sanchez stadium and will continue with the Starr County Court house, San Isidro I.S.D. and continue to expand.

This service project has been made possible with the support of Chef Mark Sierra, local Sherwin Williams Paint Store #707520, McCoy’s Building Supply of Rio Grande City, Texas House of Representatives -District 31 Rep. Ryan Guillen, Starr County Judge Eloy Vera, San Isidro C.I.S.D. Superintendent Elsa Morris and R.G.C.C.I.S.D. Superintendent Guadalupe Garza.

Together we can inspire the youth across Starr County to give back to the community. 💜

The Vaquero 4-H club came together for a Special Success Series for the month of December. The club was honored to host guest speaker Yuri González.

Yuri Gonzalez has over 18 years of media experience. She offers a wealth of expertise in radio, news, entertainment, and media in city government. Her journey began in 2007 with Liberman Broadcasting, Univision Houston Radio and KRGV Channel 5 news. She specializes in government PR, advertising and integrated marketing campaigns, and currently serves as Pharr’s City Communications Director and Public Information Officer.

We closed out the evening by collecting toys for a local non-profit - Isaac’s Angels’ 10th Annual Toy Drive. In addition, the members made over 100 Christmas Care Packages for the residents of the Starr County Nursing & Transitional Care Center. The Vaquero Club continues to find meaningful ways to spread joy during the holiday season.

STARR COUNTY CATTLE SHOWDOWN JUDGE!🍀🤠

We are so excited to have Kit Clostio come judge the first annual Starr County Cattle Showdown! Don't forget to mark your calendars for this Saturday, November 8th! This prospect show is open to any exhibitors and is being held at the Starr County Fairgrounds in Rio Grande City, TX. There will be buckles, banners, and much more!

We can't wait for you to join us!

Kit Clostio grew up in Sweeny, Texas. He graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in Animal Science in 2014. He Judged at Texas A&M and was on the 2013 Nation Champion Team. He Grew up raising show stock and commercial cattle. He currently owns and operates Clostio Livestock, with his family where they also raise show sheep, cattle, and goats. They love working with show families to reach their personal goals and improve their ability to be successful. They have even started holding annual showmanship camps. Kit has coached and lead competitive Livestock Judging teams across Texas. He has judged shows across the nation of all species at the county and state level.

One Day 4-H 2025
Vaquero 4-H Club🍀🤠

Today we celebrate One Day 4-H along with other 4-H members across Texas. 4-H members say “thank you” to their communities, counties, and state for all the support they have provided to 4-H for over 110 years.

Today the Vaquero 4-H Club members conducted an Adopt a Highway Cleanup.

Special thanks to Starr County Sheriff, Rene Fuentes who came out to support the kids. Sheriffs Deputies provided a safety briefing and conducted traffic control.

Members received a healthy snack provided by the Healthy Texas Youth Ambassadors (Paulina Solis & Victoria Rodriguez).

In addition, a second service project was conducted honoring the servicemen from the U. S. Task Force Hawk - Echo Company.
The members provided over 100 hand written thank you notes and a hamburger lunch. SSG Jeremy Perez, Company Senior Medical Advisor was on site to personally thank the members.

2025 LIVESTOCK AMBASSADORS FARMER'S MARKET EVENT

The Texas Youth Livestock Ambassadors participated at the local Tractor Supply in Rio Grande City to celebrate National Farmers Market. The community celebrated local farmers and artisans showcasing the freshest produce and various items while also fostering community spirit. The event provided a family-friendly atmosphere where ambassadors shared information regarding the New World Screwworm with the community.

The Texas Healthy Youth Ambassadors participated at the local Tractor Supply in Rio Grande City to celebrate National Farmers Market. The community celebrated local farmers and artisans showcasing the freshest produce and various items while also fostering community spirit. The event provided a family-friendly atmosphere where ambassadors gave out fresh fruit and discussed healthy living tips with the community.
