Stimming, short for self-stimulatory behavior, is a natural way many autistic people regulate their emotions, sensory experiences, and energy levels. It can include movements, sounds, or repetitive actions such as hand flapping, rocking, humming, spinning, fidgeting, lining up objects, or repeating words and phrases.

💙Why Do Autistic People Stim?

Stimming serves an important purpose. It can help:

* Regulate overwhelming sensory input
* Reduce stress and anxiety
* Express excitement, happiness, or other emotions
* Improve focus and concentration
* Provide comfort and a sense of control
* Communicate needs or feelings when words are difficult

For many autistic individuals, stimming is not a problem, it is a coping tool that helps them navigate their environment and emotions.
