๐Ÿ“ข Let me repeat - feral cats do NOT belong in shelters. ๐Ÿ“ข

Feral cats are normally brought to shelters by well-intentioned people trying to do good, who are unaware of the unintended consequences of their actions. This is not a post to criticize anyone who has done this before, but rather an educational post to show and explain why.

Meet Robin. She was brought to a local shelter with her babies and is extremely feral. In the shelter, Robin was VERY stressed out, and as a result, would not nurse or care for her babies. ๐Ÿ˜ข Why is this?

Robin is a feral cat, meaning she has never had contact with humans. Robin is not a mean cat, she is simply petrified of people and resorts to hissing, spitting, and growling as a defensive technique to scare humans away. A majority of the time, feral cats like Robin will never be able to relax at the sight of people... no matter how much time & energy you spend trying to win over their trust. Yes, there are exceptions, but generally speaking, most feral cats can never be socialized to people.

This is why feral cats don't belong in shelters. These cats are not adoptable as house cats, nor will they ever be. Bringing them to a shelter typically results in an extremely stressful and unpleasant circumstances for the cat which negatively impacts their wellbeing as you can imagine. Not to mention, if they do have baby kittens, the kittens will likely suffer and may not survive if stuck in a shelter with their feral mom. Many shelters euthanize feral cats simply because they are feral.

Feral cats just don't belong in shelters. They deserve better. Trap Neuter Return is the most humane solution for feral cats. Reach out to your local shelter or rescue for more information.

๐Ÿ“ฃFinal Week of Clear Out the Rescue and we have some amazing cats available - adoption fees are fully sponsoredโค๏ธ

Hi. I am Sally. I was a stray momma living on the streets of Pottsville after being dumped for being a pregant teen. One evening I found a safe yard with a dog house that I decided would be a safe place to have my kittens.

Day 3 - I got very sick, I was throwing up blood and the owner of the property called Save the Strays of Schuylkill - Cat Rescue for me to get help. A lady came and whisked me and my baby up and gave my babies to another mom while I was rushed to Ringtown Valley Veterinary Hospital.

After some great care and rest I was able to be returned to my babies. Me and a few other mom cats became the super moms. We helped care for our kittens ans other abandoned kittens. We loved being moms but now the kittens are big and starting to get adopted. So now is my time to enjoy life. Find family and enjoy laps and love. All the things i missed out being a teen mom.

I am spayed - vaxxed - tested (fiv positive) and microchipped. And ready for my next chapter.

My adoption fee has been sponsored for quailifed adopter.

Pick me for your couch buddy.

I Love this.... people - please I beg you fix your pets. Help the strays.

Rescues and shelters are overwhelmed and can't handle this crisis. Covid closures started this mess - with many places STOPPING SPRAY AND NEUTER services for 9 months during gov shutdowns. They deemed not essential. At the start of kitten season . 2 or 3 litters were born that year per unfixes female. Do the math... it is crisis mode now....

We can't get ahead. There is no way to save and adopt out all these cats. We are bearly making a dent due the the calls and posts we see online.

And we helped make appt for vetting to help him get a forever home.

We can't intake because we are full but we are still helping anyway we can!

Thank you Berks Animal Hospital for helping with another happy ending.

Dropping this here. Let this sink in for people feeding or finding strays.

Dropping this here. Let this sink in for people feeding or finding strays.

Many kittens will end up abandoned, succumbing to outdoor dangers but a spay will save suffering, cost of upkeep, unexpected vet bills and contribute to lessening the current cat overpopulation crisis!

Hi. I am Sly...

This little one found as a stray near a camp ground living off the trash at the bar. He is the smallest of the of three we found and rescued.

He had a wound on his neck like a bite mark maybe from another animal. Which would be quite possible since dumpster diving at a bar would most likely attack alot of "animals". Little party animals hanging aroubd the bar afterhours getting in fights. It was treated and healed up nice.

We called him SLY because he ia just that sly. He was the last one caught.

Sponsor his future neuter appt today... so his journey to find a furever home can bring.
