We had such a great time at Catoosa Reads at the Catoosa County Library! So many amazing organizations showed up to share their resources with the community, and the best part? Every single one of them encouraged a love of reading! 📚

Pete the Cat even made an appearance… his dance moves might need a little work 🤭, but he was definitely a crowd favorite!

It is with a heavy heart that I share that our friend and coworker, Deborah Hester, passed away on Saturday morning. Deborah was a cherished member of our team, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Deborah had a way of brightening every room with her radiant confidence and grace. Even the smallest details mattered to her; her makeup and nail polish were always in perfect harmony with whatever she wore.
Visitation will be held at Heritage Funeral Home on Battlefield Parkway in Fort Oglethorpe on Tuesday, November 18, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The service will take place on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Catoosa Citizens for Literacy will be donating a scholarship in Deborah’s memory to honor her dedication to our community and to literacy.
Please keep Deborah’s family and loved ones in your thoughts during this difficult time.

We have thoroughly enjoyed visiting with Catoosa County’s third grade students for our annual Dictionary Project. We still have a couple more schools to visit, but wanted to highlight some of the moments we have shared thus far.

A big shoutout to the amazing Catoosa County Library directors and staff for hosting such a fun Halloween Trunk or Treat!
Our own Shirley Smith, GraceAnn Autry, and Krista Autry had a blast handing out books, candy, and info about Catoosa Citizens for Literacy.
Thank you, ladies, for spending your day with the kids (and parents!) in our community!!! We’re so grateful for each of you!

Noelia “Nelly” Sargento was a featured speaker during the General Session of the Technical College System of Georgia Leadership Conference in Savannah, Georgia. Nelly shared her inspiring journey beginning as a GED student at the Catoosa County Learning Center, then representing our county and district as the EAGLE delegate, and ultimately serving as the State EAGLE Representative.

Catoosa Citizens for Literacy first recognized Nelly’s hard work and determination by awarding her a $500 scholarship as the GED Student of the Year. Later, when she earned the title of EAGLE winner, she was presented with an additional $1,000 scholarship in recognition of her continued excellence.

We’re so proud of Nelly and the incredible example she continues to set for adult learners across Georgia!

Such a great group of 3rd graders at Battlefield Elementary School yesterday. CCL had the pleasure of giving dictionaries and ink pens to the Class of 2035. The students were excited to play a fun trivia game hosted by Mrs. Carla Stephens and even more thrilled to learn that she was one of Dr. McCrary’s, their principal, high school teachers! Our Educational Coordinator, Darla Crawford, especially enjoyed the visit, as she had the joy of presenting a dictionary to her own daughter, Lexi. 2035 will be here before we know it! Congratulations to this fantastic group of third graders! We’ll see you at graduation!!
