Day two of Cumberland Island is in the bag. We started the day with a group of rangers and conservationist biologists who shared about their work both in controlling the feral hog population and in protecting migratory animals like loggerhead turtles who lay eggs on the island and several bird species who stop over on the island along thousand mile journeys. We hiked to the Dungeness Mansion ruins, learning about the Greene and Carnegie families, where we ate lunch. We then participated in a beach cleanup removing several bags worth of trash as we walked back. From there, we enjoyed some more beach time and closed the day with a beautiful sunset.
