Explorer Post #2305 would like to congratulate Explorer Captain Thomas Culpepper for being a recipient of the Post Volunteer Fire Department Scholarship for 2025!
Explorer Captain Thomas Culpepper has been with the CCFD Explorer Post #2305 since October 2021. With many years of training and experience, he is expected to graduate from Heritage High School this month! Not only is he graduating with a high school diploma, he will be testing for his National Registry Emergency Medical Technician after an entire year of a college level course. Thomas is looking to continue his fire training, obtain his GA State Firefighter Certification, and pursue a career in the fire service.
In 1949, the United States Army decided to move the 6th Cavalry away from Fort Oglethorpe, GA. In 1951, thirteen men got together to form a group of people who were interested in making their town a safer place. This group of people grew and, in 1953, transitioned from the Post Fireman's Club to the Post Volunteer Fire Department. The Post Volunteer Fire Department later became known as Fort Oglethorpe Fire Department. Effective January 1, 2020, FOFD and Catoosa County Fire Department merged to service the entirety of Catoosa County under one department.
The proceeds from the Post's assets have made the scholarship fund available to give back to the community and to keep the spirit of the Post Volunteer Fire Department alive. The scholarship is given to a student who has a relative who served as a member of the Post, a student pursuing a career in a field related to first responders, and a student who wants to better themselves with further education beyond high school.
Keep up the great work and dedication that you continue to give to the citizens of Catoosa County and your fellow classmates, Thomas. Well done and well deserved.
