VFW Post 12149, Commander Stephen Koski, Today, the third Friday of September, September 18th, 2026, is POW/MIA Recognition Day. Of the 80,754 service members who remain unaccounted since World War II, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) estimates that 38,000 can be recovered. There are 71,688 missing from WWII, 7,356 from the Korean War, 1,565 from the Vietnam War, 126 from the Cold War, and 6 from the Iraq War and other conflicts.
As Veterans of Foreign Wars, we display the POW/MIA flag at all our meetings and events as a reminder of the sacred obligation to our fellow veterans that answered the call of duty. They will never be forgotten, we will continue to search for, recover, and identify our Comrades that made the ultimate sacrifice. God Bless America
