We started Love Your Gorge in 2018. Through the years, our volunteers have provided a lot of hard work but also shared in a lot of fun times.

This a very similar trend for the Uncompahgre River Watershed

For the Animas River in Durango (USGS gage) dating back to 1912 there have only been 6 other years where daily average discharge was greater in the fall than during spring runoff: 1925, 1970, 1972, 2002, 2006, and 2025...and now TWO YEARS IN A ROW...2026!

This year, it isn't that the river flows got all that high this fall, it is more of a reflection of the previous winter snow drought and subsequent meager spring runoff we had in the San Juan Mountains.

Hey, are you a farmer looking for support for your land stewardship practices? The Colorado Department of Agriculture is preparing to open up a tax credit application for the practice of qualified stewardship practices on a farm or ranch, including any practice that: 1) increases soil health, 2) improves water efficiency, or 3) creates more diverse and beneficial ecosystems while maintaining the productivity of the farm or ranch. Applications will open in October with the final submission date of November 16, 2026 at 10am. There are also a couple of webinars coming up to learn more: https://ag.colorado.gov/ag-stewardship-tax

5th Annual National Public Lands Day Cleanup with San Miguel Watershed Coalition -
October 3

Please join SMWC for the 5th Annual National Public Lands Day on Saturday, October 3rd at 10:00 am at Caddis Flats Campground.

Your participation in previous cleanups has helped us collect over 3 tons of trash. Last year alone we picked up 2,000 pounds of trash and there's no reason we can't beat that number this year!

As in past years, the BLM will provide all necessary equipment to safely pick up trash and will haul it away at the end of the day.

Please invite your friends to join the fun. The cleanup is always a great event during a beautiful time of year.
