Elk County Historical Society

Elk County Historical Society The Elk County Historical Society was founded May 21, 1964 and incorporated in 1974. We are located in Ridgway, the county seat of Elk County, in NW PA.

The Society is a nonprofit membership organization funded through memberships, donations, and grants and governed by a 15-member Board of Directors. The Society has a 501c3 tax exempt status. The Elk County Historical Society is funded in part by grants from the County of Elk and the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission.

The Elk County Historical Society will hold the Strawberry Festival at the St. Leo Church social hall at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, June 19.

The Strawberry Festival is the Historical Society’s biggest fundraiser of the year. It is a community and family-oriented project complete with a basket raffle, a 50/50 drawing, hot dogs, hamburgers, and drinks. All purchases are cash only.

The festival runs until the strawberries run out, which is normally around 6 p.m. See the June 6 edition of The Ridgway Record for more details.

Business District along Main Street (U.S. Route 219) in the town of Ridgway, Elk County. Ridgway is the "County Seat" of Elk County and is on the Eastern edge of the Allegheny National Forest, Pennsylvania's only federally owned forest, a "Sportsman's Paradise", providing the best in hunting, fishing and other outdoor recreation.
