The Hardeeville Police Department wants to make the community aware of a recent increase in sextortion cases impacting our area and nearby counties.

Many of these incidents involve juveniles and are being initiated through social media apps, including TikTok, with individuals posing as other young people.

Sextortion is a form of online blackmail where a person pressures someone to send explicit images and then threatens to share them unless money is paid.

What parents and guardians should know:

•Monitor your child’s online activity and conversations.

•Remind juveniles never to share sensitive or explicit images.

•Encourage open communication about anything that feels suspicious or unsafe online.

If you or your child experiences suspicious activity, please report it to local law enforcement immediately.

ICYMI: A new state law requires anyone who works 10+ hours a week serving alcohol to complete an approved server training.

Managers who oversee alcohol service are also required to complete this training.
