Beware of Gators!

On Sunday, a new record of 741.5 pounds was set in Mississippi for the heaviest alligator harvested. The previous record was posted last week for a gator weighing 727 pounds.

Hopefully we won't have any gator sightings during the Annual Conference, but one can never be too careful around here!

Ground transportation from the Jackson Evers International Airport to the Embassy Suites/North – Ridgeland, MS, is only available via Taxi service. There is no shuttle service available at this airport or from the hotel. Taxis are lined up outside the baggage claim area.

Average cost will be between $50-$60 dollars, with an additional $3 or $4 per extra person.

Please try to share a taxi ride with another SoChap attendee. This could be coordinated via the Listserv based upon flight arrival times, etc. The Jackson Airport is very small and it is not hard to meet with other persons, even when arriving on other air-carriers.

ASK the taxi driver what the charge will be before getting into the cab! Cost is based on minutes and it will depend on traffic and arrival times. It is about 27 miles depending on which route the cab travels.

Speaker Bio: Dr. Ralph Didlake

Dr. Didlake is Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Chief Academic Officer, and director of the Center for Bioethics and Medical Humanities at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. After practicing transplant, general, and vascular surgery for 23 years, Dr. Didlake currently focuses on professionalism education, research ethics, and the medical humanities. Come listen to Dr. Didlake speak on ethics of healthcare information.

Speaker Bio: Dr. Howard S. Teitelbaum

Dr. Teitelbaum is professor and chair of Preventative Medicine at Lincoln Memorial University. In 2011, Dr. Teitelbaum was named the national educator of the year for osteopathic medical schools. Dr. Teitelbaum will speak on the future of health information and medical librarianship.

Hospital Librarians! The speaker for this year's Hospital Libraries Symposium will be Mary V. Taylor from the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center in Shreveport, LA. She will be speaking on changes in Hospital Libraries over the past 40 years. The topic will cover changes in the areas of technology, marketing, and integration with parent healthcare organizations. This is sure to be a very interesting, insightful, and engaging event!
