General Opportunities

Creatively Made - New program that supports rising, breakthrough talent on Creatively through mentorship, unique connections, and exclusive grants up to $5,000 to kickstart your creative projects. Apply by 3/2/2022.

Fed Ex Small Business Grant Contest - Opportunity to win $20,000-$50,000 as well as FedEx service credits. Note – you will need to create a FedEx account if you don’t already have one – which will require that you tie in a credit card. Apply by 2/28/22

Fresh Start Business Grant thru Incfile - Entrepreneurs 20 years or older can apply to receive $2,500 to put toward business startup costs and will also receive free formation services from Incfile. Apply by 3/31/2022.

Inspired Women Community Grant - This grant is for entrepreneurial women in America who have annual business income below $50,000. There is a "pay it forward" aspect to the application. Grant is for $1,000. Apply by 3/1/2022.

Services That Back Us Grant - More than 250 grants of $5,000 each will be awarded in four cycles over 12 months to small businesses located in older or historic commercial districts across the country, with priority given to businesses that have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic and preference given to businesses owned by underrepresented groups. Apply by 3/1/22.

Voodle Visionaries Grant Contest - Open to all female, non-binary, and/or BIPOC founders. To enter, submit a 60-second video about their company’s plans to change the future of work. Grant is for $10,000. Apply by 2/25/2022

Congratulations to our final participant in the VAN business accelerator pilot!!!

David Price, 19, created The Safety Pouch as a result of his worries about being pulled over by the police. “My parents have always been extremely transparent with my sisters and me about driving and just interacting with law enforcement and just how to act in general,” Price told AfroTech. “I did some research and didn’t find anything on the market that I really liked or thought would be safe for both officers and drivers, and that’s when I came up with the concept of The Safety Pouch.”

Price believes fate led him to create the device after the political science major ended up in a business class at Loyola University of New Orleans. “I tried really hard to get out of the class, but I guess it was just fate for me to stay in the course and get back to realizing how impactful that the idea of this safety pouch could be,” he explained.

After his class was given an assignment to create a product that would help ignite societal change, Price remembered The Safety Pouch idea he had come up with a few years before. “This whole product was created so that Black drivers would not have to reach for their information to share with police officers during a traffic stop and risk the chance of being shot because they assumed that they may be reaching for a weapon,” Price said.

Today is Giving Tuesday which is a global day of giving. Every dollar donated to Second Chance CDFI goes directly to creating opportunities and driving economic stability in minority communities.

During 2021, we have partnered with some amazing organizations and banks who are committed to providing financial literacy and access to capital. Twenty small business owners are currently participating in our joint volunteer accelerator network pilot. And we are exploring a shark tank competition for true startup entrepreneurs within the Lowcountry.
