RODENTICIDE BAN DISCUSSED

Come to the meeting of the Ridgefield Conservation Commission Monday, June 8, 7 pm, at the Town Annex if you want to learn more about the dangers of using rodenticides on your property. Representatives of the Newtown Conservation Commission will be discussing the threats these substances pose to wildlife and how it got Newtown to ban these poisons from Town properties.

Congratulations to RCC commissioner Roberta Barbieri for accepting the Audubon/Connecticut’s 2026 Environmental Leadership Award last night at the Tamarack Country Club in Greenwich. As Vice President of Global Sustainability at PepsiCo, Roberta has shown that corporate leadership can be a powerful force for good. In addition to her professional efforts for sustainability, she has been a tireless advocate for native plants and nemesis of invasive ones. Besides her efforts on the Commission, she is also President of the board of Woodcock Nature Center and on the board of Pollinator Pathway. She is pictured here with RCC commissioners Jana Hogan (far left) and Erik Keller (far right).

Join me, Allan Welby of the Ridgefield Conservation Commission, on a bird walk at Bennetts Pond State Park, Wednesday, May 20, 7:00 am. Spring migration is in full swing as birds of every size and variety are working their way through our area, traveling from their wintering grounds in South America to their breeding grounds in Canada. The highlight of this migration are the wood warblers, approximately 30 species sporting dazzling colors and singing complex, delightful songs. Beginners welcome. Meet at the main parking lot at Bennett’s Pond, 572 Bennetts Farm Road, Ridgefield. The walk will last approximately 2 hours (we're going to stick to a couple of easy trails from the parking lot). After the walk you'll also have the option to join me at McKeon Farm to check on our thriving Purple Martin colony. Bring binoculars if you have them. Ticks always an issue so defend accordingly. I'll have extra bottled water if you need it. Most of all bring a sense of curiosity! Message me if you have any questions. Attached photo an Indigo Bunting (we should see this on this walk).

Aldrich Park needs your HELP!

Come help the Conservation Commission pull invasive burning bush from Aldrich Park!

Multiple acres of Aldrich are impacted, but every bit that gets cleared makes room for native trees and plants to rebound.

WHY DOES IT MATTER?

Without space, native trees and plants simply can’t reproduce. Come help save Aldrich’s beauty and biodiversity and protect native wildlife and birds.

Bring the whole family to explore Aldrich and help out all at the same time! Many plants are easy to pull by hand, but please bring gloves. Meet at the hiking trail kiosk.
