Look closely at the Greely Building, these old windows are sharing generations of Ridgefield stories.

From mill workers and first-time voters to neighbors passing library books hand-to-hand, Ridgefield Through the Years brings six moments from our community’s past into the heart of Downtown.

Swipe for a closer look at The Story in the Windows and the people, places and experiences represented in this collection.

The Greely Building photo panels are a Ridgefield Main Street beautification project led by our Design Committee and with use of the building in partnership with the Port of Ridgefield. Installed by Ballyhoo and featuring imagery contributed by local photographers and community organizations, the panels help strengthen Downtown’s sense of place while celebrating what makes Ridgefield, Ridgefield.

Our Photo Panel Project is taking shape Downtown!

The Pioneer Street side of the Greely Building photo-panel installation is now complete, with the Third Avenue side coming soon.

This project is brought to our community by Ridgefield Main Street and thanks to our Design Committee Volunteers, this downtown beautification project brings together images that help tell the story of Ridgefield: its history, natural beauty and the experiences that make this community unique.

The use of the Greely Building is through partnership with the Port of Ridgefield and installed by local company Ballyhoo, with photography contributed by local organizations and photographers.

Here’s a first look—we’ll share the full reveal soon!

Something new is coming to Downtown Ridgefield this fall. 🐦

Earlier this year, Ridgefield Main Street’s Design Committee started thinking about what happens after our beloved flower baskets come down for the season. How could we continue bringing color and character to our streets through the fall and winter, while creating something that feels uniquely Ridgefield?

The answer: birdhouses.

With the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge just down the road and birds such a beloved part of our community’s identity, the idea felt like a natural fit.

Then our community started bringing it to life.

Ridgefield High School woodshop students built all 30 birdhouses, and RHS art students have already transformed several into one-of-a-kind works of art.
Now it’s your turn.

This Sunday, Friends of Ridgefield NWR and David are collaborating with Ridgefield Main Street to invite the community to paint the remaining birdhouses and get them ready for their Downtown debut.

Paint a Birdhouse
Sunday, August 23 | 11 AM–3 PM
Individuals, families and groups are welcome.
Registration is required through Friends of the Refuge.

The completed birdhouses will be revealed during BirdFest & Bluegrass in October before taking their places Downtown where our flower baskets hang today , bringing a new pop of color to our streets throughout the fall and winter.

From an idea around a Design Committee table, to RHS classrooms, to the hands of our community, this is what Main Street is all about: bringing people together to invest in and care for the heart of Ridgefield.

A vibrant Downtown doesn’t happen by accident.

It takes people who believe in the value of this charming place, and who are willing to invest their time, talent and resources to help make it happen.

On National Nonprofit Day, we’re sharing a little more about the work happening through Ridgefield Main Street.

It’s the flower baskets that brighten our streets each summer. Main Street Moola that keeps dollars circulating locally. Tree wells, murals, façade improvements and public spaces that make Downtown feel cared for. And events and experiences that bring people together and deepen their connection to Downtown.

We promote. We connect. We invest.

And we do it alongside a community that believes Downtown Ridgefield is worth investing in.

To our volunteers who give their time and talents, our sponsors and partners who support this work, our merchants who bring Downtown to life every day, and the neighbors who continue to show up , thank you.

It takes a community to keep the heart of Downtown thriving. ❤️
