A Father's Day Gift Suggestion
If Dad is still in the last century using gas powered lawn equipment, then he is exposing himself to carcinogenic emissions and excessive noise. Here is a direct quote from Stihl’s user manual for their most popular gas-powered leaf blower. “As soon as the engine is running, this product generates toxic exhaust fumes, containing chemicals, such as unburned hydrocarbons (including benzene) and carbon monoxide, that are known to cause respirable problems, cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. “
By the way, the neighbors are also getting more than their share of the noise and emissions; and Mother Nature is choking on the greenhouse gas emissions.
Looking for a Father’s Day gift that says “I love you Dad”, “we like the neighbors” and “we care for the environment?” Then purchase a new battery powered lawn care tool.
You can start with something small like a string trimmer and then, for the holidays and birthdays that follow, add the leaf blower, hedge clipper, chain saw, lawn mower, snow blower etc. All of the equipment uses the same battery. Just pop out the battery from one tool and pop it into the next.
No more cord pulls to hurt Dad’s shoulders or back, no more trips to the gas station for gasoline or oil, no more winterizing equipment or spark plug changes. This gift idea just keeps on giving. Of course, even better, you could mow the lawn once in a while – but let’s stay on topic.
Interested – but not yet convinced? Ridgefield Action Committee for the Environment has a lending program for battery powered lawn care tools. Contact Vincent Giordano at [email protected] to borrow a tool.
